Adoption Contract Requirements
Thank you for your interest in adoption! Our goal is to ensure every horse is placed in a safe, loving, and permanent home. To help set both our equines and adopters up for success, please carefully review the following requirements:
Eligibility
- Adopters must be 21 years of age or older.
- Applicants under 21 must provide written consent from a parent or legal guardian.
Adoption Terms
- Adopted equines may not be raced, bred, sold, given away, or transferred, except as specifically outlined in the adoption contract.
- Equines designated as companions are not rideable due to health or soundness considerations. These horses deserve loving homes where they can thrive in appropriate roles.
Our adoption contract is designed to protect the long-term well-being of each horse and to provide clarity for adopters.
Follow-Up Requirements
Because we remain invested in every horse’s future, we require two follow-up check-ins during the first year:
6-Month Check-In
Adopters must submit:
- One full-body photo of the equine
- Clear photos of all four feet
Photos may be emailed to programs@kyeac.org or mailed to our office.
12-Month Check-In
Adopters must submit:
- One full-body photo of the equine
- Clear photos of all four feet
- A completed one-page veterinary inspection form (provided by KYEAC)
After satisfactory review of the veterinary report and photos, full ownership will be officially transferred through a formal transfer letter.
Adoption Process
Submitting an application is the first step toward adoption. Once approved, a KYEAC trainer will contact you to schedule a visit to meet available horses. Applications are typically reviewed within 5–7 business days, depending on reference response time.
We work thoughtfully to ensure the right match for both horse and adopter.
Scheduling Policy
After approval, you may schedule your first visit. If you cancel and need to reschedule, a non-refundable $50 fee will be required before booking a new appointment.
