Adoption Contract Requirements
To ensure the best outcomes for our equines and adopters, please review the following adoption requirements carefully:
Eligibility
- Adopters must be 21 years of age or older.
- Applicants under 21 must have written consent from a parent or legal guardian.
Adoption Terms
- Adopted equines may not be raced, bred, sold, given away, or transferred by the adopter, except as outlined in the adoption contract.
- If an equine is designated as a companion, it is not rideable due to specific health considerations.
Follow-Up Requirements
6-Month Check-In
Adopters are required to submit:
- A full-body photo of the equine
- Photos of all four feet
- Submit via email to programs@kyeac.org or by mail.
12-Month Check-In
Adopters must submit:
- A full-body photo of the equine
- Photos of all four feet
- A completed one-page veterinary inspection form (provided by KYEAC)
- Upon satisfactory review of the veterinary report and photos, full ownership of the equine will be transferred to the adopter through an official transfer letter.
Adoption Process
- Submitting an application is the first step in the adoption process.
- Once your application is approved, a KYEAC trainer will contact you to schedule a visit to meet the horses.
- Application review typically takes 5–7 business days, depending on how quickly we can reach your references.
Scheduling Policy
Once approved, you may schedule your first visit. If you cancel your appointment and need to reschedule, a non-refundable fee of $50 will be required before booking a new visit.
