  • SUMMER LEADERSHIP INTENSIVE APPLICATION

  • Program Dates: June 9, 2026 - June 26, 2026

    Tuesdays - Fridays, 9:30 am to 3:30 pm
  • ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

    To be selected as a scholarship participant in the VLA, you must meet the following criteria: 

    • Must be between the ages of 14 – 19 years old
    • Must be enrolled in school (charter, public, virtual, or home school)
    • Must have a minimum G.P.A. of 2.00
    • Must provide an unofficial copy of school transcript
    • Must not have more than 10 unexcused absences
    • Must not have more than one disciplinary infraction. (Please note: Type of infraction may impact final acceptance) 
    • Available on the scheduled days for the entire duration of the program
    • Interested in learning new skills for growth in leadership
  • PROGRAM DETAILS

    The students will be expected to engage in collaborative learning where they are able to work independently as well as in groups. We believe that leadership is not only about what you know but who you are and the characteristics that you display in how you learn and how you lead. Our students will learn the importance of Integrity, Expectancy, Ingenuity, Community, and Tenacity as they expand their knowledge of what it is to be a leader.
  • Application Process

    • Complete your application.
    • Attend In-Person or Virtual Interview. The selection process includes a student empathy interview. Student will receive an acceptance status. If selected, you will receive an acceptance letter with onboarding instructions.
    • Complete Onboarding – Student and parent/guardian are requested to attend to Onboarding Orientation. Documents provided include: Family Participation Agreement, Program Curriculum/Activities, Parent/Guardian Involvement Plan, Program Expectations.
  • PROGRAM CRITERIA

    Rising 9th - 12th grade students will be recommended to the program by school and community leaders. No students that have a history of ongoing disciplinary issues will be accepted into the program. Parents and students admitted into the program must agree to the program continuation plan. In order to be eligible for the program benefits, the student must complete the required continuing education and activities. The students must agree to return to the Summer Academy for a period of one week each year after their inaugural year to receive refresher training and ongoing leadership training.

  • Extended Day and After Class (T - F: 3:30PM - 5:30PM)

    This portion of the SLI is considered an extended day for participants and there is a nominal fee for this portion of the SLI. Fee: $75 per week. This is optional for SLI Cohort members and will not impact acceptance to the leadership intensive. See the options available:

  • STATEMENT OF POLICY

    • A complete application is required for all students applying to participate in the Summer Intensive.
    • We have a rolling application but for the current year cohort, applications will be accepted November - March of each calendar year.
    • The Summer Program is 4 days per week from 9:30 am - 3:30 pm
    • Only persons authorized by the parent or guardian may pick up your child from the Leadership Academy. Please notify the Director in writing if anyone other than a parent/guardian will pick up your child.
    • All students representing or attending Vanguard Leadership Academy programs are required to follow all program rules.
    • Behavioral problems will result in parent notification and suspension from the program.
    • Students with a fever or contagious illness should not attend the Summer Academy
