  • General Information

    The Barnesville Pumpkin Festival will be producing their annual Pageant, which will be held at the Barnesville High School Auditorium at 4:00pm on Sunday September 17, 2023. The Barnesville Pumpkin Festival has become a tradition for families and friends from all over. What started out as a small festival has grown into one of the largest events in Ohio. Three lucky young ladies will get the opportunity to reign over this amazing event as Queen, Princess and Mini Miss. They will be awarded with beautiful prizes such as crowns, sashes, flowers and trophies as well as other exciting prizes including cash! Contestants must fill out the form below and submit their $75 entry fee by midnight Friday September 1, 2023 to be eligible to compete.     Areas of Competition

    Private Interview: (50% of total score) Each contestant will sit down with our panel of judges the morning of the pageant to be asked questions about themselves, the role of Pumpkin Royalty and more! The goal of this phase of competition is to allow the judges to get to know the girl, and evaluate her ability to converse and communicate with others. Interviews will last 5 minutes for Mini Miss, 7 Minutes for Princess and 10 Minutes for Queen Contestants.

    Attire - Business or church appropriate attire. Contestants will be sitting so please be mindful of short skirts/dresses.

     

    Talent: (25% of total score) Each contestant will have 2 minutes to showcase her choice of a talent! Talents can include dancing, singing, cheer, tumbling, playing an instrument, speed painting, cooking, science experiments, magic, sport demonstrations, monologues and more! The goal of this phase of competition is to showcase personality, skill and commitment to that skill. Each contestant will also give a brief speech on stage before their talent to introduce themselves and their talent. The speech can include her name, age, hometown, grade in school, hobbies, introudcing her talent and more- Get Creative! 

    Attire - Your Choice! Whatever outfit helps you look and perform your best. Be mindful that it is appropriate for your talent presentation/age.

     

    Evening Gown: (25% of total score) Each contestant will model a gown of her choosing on stage. The goal of this competition is to showcase her poise, personality, and composure on stage in front of a crowd. We ask that all hair, makeup and gowns be kept age appropriate. Find the modeling pattern Here. Please note each contestant must stop at every point but she may choose what poses/turns to do at each point. 

    Attire - A formal floor length gown of your choosing. Any style or color is welcome but make sure it is age appropriate!

     

    Pageant Day Information

    Pageant Day is a busy day! We do our best to keep to a tight schedule. About a week or so out from pageant day, you will receive a definitive schedule with where to be at Barnesville High School and when. In order to keep things running smoothly and for the safety of our contestants, we ask that no more than 3 people accompany each contestant the morning of pageant day. If a person is not crucial to her preperation, please encourage them to come when doors open for the show.

    9:30am - Doors Open to Contestants

    10:30am - Rehearsals/Interviews Begin

    3:00pm - Doors Open to the General Public

    4:00pm - Showtime!

    Seating is General Admission with no saved seating prior to doors opening. Tickets can be purchased at the door with cash only for $5. Contestants do not need a ticket but everyone else does.

  • Rules & Regulations

    The following is a list of rules each contestant and her family must follow:
  • 1. She must be a good role model who cares about her title

    2. She must serve as a representative for the Barnesville Pumpkin Festival

    3. She must be considered both talented and intelligent

    4. She must take pride in her community and manner in which she conducts herself

    5. She must never have been convicted of a misdemeanor or felony

    6. She must never have been pregnant or is pregnant

    7. She must be female

    8. She must conduct herself in a ladylike manner at all times (which includes no smoking, drinking, drug use, foul language, innapropriate attire, etc.)

    9. She must wear appropriate attire at all times when traveling. This includes, but is not limited to, abiding by the luncheon dress codes, wearing gowns to festivals unless given permission by committee members to wear sundresses/jumpsuits/business attire, and traveling in appropriate attire that allows her to put on her crown and sash immediately and represent the festival. No leggings, short skirts, high slits, plunging necklines or revealing attire. If in doubt, ask!

    10. Chaperones must dress in appropriate attire when traveling. This includes, but is not limited to, festival t-shirt, dress clothes or festival/luncheon themed attire. No short skirts/shorts, see through leggings or revealing attire.

    11. Contestant may compete in other pageants with permission from the Barnesville Pumpkin Festival as long as they do not interfere with her responsibilities.

    12. The Queen must attend 10 Ohio Festival and Events Association regulated events and provide proof in the form of a button or charm

    13. The Princess must attend 7 Ohio Festival and Events Association regulated events and provide proof in the form of a button or charm

    14. The Mini Miss must attend 5 Ohio Festival and Events Association regulated events and provide proof in the form of a button or charm

    15. Parent's/Legal Guardians of royalty will serve as chaperones at festivals and be responsible for submitting paperwork and payments to each festival in a timely manner

    16. All royalty must make their presence known at the Barnesville Pumpkin Festival throughout the week and attend the festival a minimmum of three days

    17. The Royalty and Courts must attend the Queen's Luncheon, participate in the parade and ceremonies following the parade

    18. The Royalty must attend opening ceremonies and attend as many other events during the festival as possible

    19. Winners must return to the Barnesville Pumpkin Festival the following year to crown their successors, organize the Queen's Luncheon and participate in the parade

    20. Anyone who breaks these rules will have consequences that include, but are not limited to, inability to participate in the Barnesville Pumpkin Festival Pageant again, relinquishing their title and all prizes and honors connected with the Barnesville Pumpkin Festival.

  • 2023 Festival Responsibilities

    Events the New Royalty and Courts must attend during the 2023 Barnesville Pumpkin Festival
  • Wednesday September 20, 2023: Giant Pumpkin Weigh Inns

    At least one winner (Queen, Princess, or Mini Miss) must be present at the Giant Pumpkin Weigh Inns during the evening hours (exact time TBA). Please wear crown and sash and a cute yet comfortbale outfit. Photographs may be taken and published and your help may be needed at Weigh Inns. 

     

    Thursday September 21, 2023: Opening Ceremonies

    All three Winners (Queen, Princess and Mini Miss) must be present at the Opening Ceremonies and Ribbon Cutting which will take place at the King Pumpkin. Please wear gown, crown, sash and bring your flowers. (Your gown can be, but doesn't have to be the same one that you won in). Your photo will be taken and published in newspapers and videos will be shown on TV. You may be interviewed by television and radio following the ceremonies. After opening ceremonies, we encourage you to change into your interview attire or something similar to attend and crown the new Little Miss/Little Mister and Pumpkin Baby. We also encourage you to bring your talent music and attire for the talent show if time permits you to perform. 

     

    Saturday September 23, 2023: Queen's Luncheon

    All Queen, Princess and Mini Miss Winners and Runner Ups must be present in their gowns. (Your gown can be but does not have to be the same one you wore for the pageant. Make sure you can sit in your gown). Winners please wear your crown, sash, and bring your flowers. All family members are invited to attend at a cost of $15 per person. All Winners and Runner Ups will be free. Please have a list of people attending and payment ready at the pageant should your contestant be chosen as a Winner or Runner Up.

     

    Saturday September 23, 2023: Pumpkin Parade

    Immediately following the luncheon is the Giant Pumpkin Parade. A float will be provided for the Winners and Runner Ups to ride on. Everyone must stay in their gowns for the parade. Winners must carry their flowers. After the parade everyone will walk to the King Pumpkin as a group. Upon the conclusion of the parade, everyone will introduce themselves and their titles. At this time parents need to meet their child at the King Pumpkin and check in with Lisa Kessler BEFORE leaving with their child.
