PREP BEFORE TREATMENT:
Avoid sun exposure at least 2 weeks before treatment, laser hair reduction is a light based laser and sun sensitive. The skin treated will burn easier with exposure after treatment and results highly depend on sun exposure before treatment.
The laser targets darker/ coarser hair the best. People with red, light brown, blonde, white, and gray hairs may not be the best candidate.
The hair needs to be in the follicle for the laser to work. Do not wax, tweeze, or pull hair out of the follicle for 4 weeks before the first treatment and during the duration of sessions.
Have the area(s) being treated freshly shaved the day before or the day of treatment.
Avoid the use of retinoids and exfoliating acids 3-5 days before treatment, and must wait 6 months after the last dose of Accutane. You must be off of antibiotics or medications that may cause sun sensitivity for at least
2 weeks before going through with any laser treatment.
Although rare with laser hair reduction, If you have a history of cold sores, you may want to pre treat with an antiviral from your doctor.
AFTER CARE:
Redness, slight heat tingle sensation, and raised bumps (swelling of the hair follicles) are expected after treatment and will subside after a couple of hours.
If you feel a sunburn sensation on the treated area, you may apply a hydrocortisone cream or soothing product. If the burning sensation lasts longer than 2 hours, contact our office.
You may use sunscreen and makeup immediately after treatment, a sunblock of 30 spf or greater is required.
Avoid saunas, hot tubs, intense workouts, and hot showers for 24 hours post treatment as well as shaving as these can cause irritation and inflamed follicles.
RESULTS:
*Best results are usually seen after 6 treatments though more may be required. It is essential to do treatments every 4-6 weeks, depending on the area(s) being treated. After the initial sessions, you will go into maintenance and come when needed.
*The term “laser hair reduction” is in place because any laser is not fully permanent, over time new hair follicles will develop due to new blood supply caused by genetics, hormones, ect., so maintenance sessions are necessary.
*The hairs targeted will gradually fall out the following weeks. You may notice less hair growth after just one treatment, any hair growing between sessions will be targeted at the next appointment.
