Who is a Distinguished Alumna/Alumnus?

A nurse who graduated from an FIU Nursing degree program(s), who through their practice and service has had a significant influence on nursing and health care in the local, regional, national, and/or global community. Through their commitment to excellence in the nursing profession, they serve as an inspiration to others.

Distinguished Alumna/Alumnus Categories

Category	Description - See award category for specific criteria
Excellence in Clinical Nursing Practice	An alumna/alumnus who has demonstrated clinical excellence and superior skills, providing high quality, compassionate care, and a passion for the practice of nursing. The nominee has served as an advocate for patients/clients, families and/or communities, making a recognizable difference through their practice. The award recipient embodies the essence of the nursing profession through mentorship, professional growth, and certification in their field.
Excellence in Nursing Education	An alumna/alumnus who has shared knowledge, skills, and experience through the role of nurse educator, creating and cultivating an environment that has supported professional development and life-long learning.
Excellence in Nursing Research	An alumna/alumnus whose research, leadership. and cumulative contributions has advanced the science of nursing, improved the health and well-being of the public, and brought honor and prestige to their field of study.
Excellence in Nursing Administration	An alumna/alumnus who has demonstrated excellence in nursing administration and leadership, serving as a champion and advocate for clients/patients, families, and communities and the nursing profession.
Excellence in Nursing Innovation	An alumna/alumnus who has elevated the profession to new and extraordinary heights by using unique skillsets to develop and implement creative or entrepreneurial ideas that advance the nursing profession.
Excellence in  Global Health	An alumna/alumnus who has exhibited outstanding service to humanity by advocating for improved health and well-being as a human right for all people in the global community.
Excellence in Community Volunteerism	An alumna/alumnus who has promoted the public recognition of nursing as a human service profession by voluntarily serving individuals, families, organizations, and communities through participation in professional service in regional, national, and/or international health care activities
Excellence in Public Service	An alumna/alumnus who has demonstrated an esteemed career in leadership, practice, and advocacy by making a significant effect on improving the health of consumers (individuals, families, communities, and/or populations).

GUIDELINES/INFORMATION FOR SUBMITTING ENTRIES

• The nominee must be an alumna/alumnus who has earned a degree or post degree certificate from FIU Nursing.
• The nominee reflects FIU Nursing’s values of truth, freedom, respect, responsibility, excellence, compassion, caring, innovation, integrity, cultural competence, and collaboration.
• Third party and/or self-nominations will be accepted.

• Members of the Nursing Alumni Awards Committee are not eligible to receive an award. NOTE: Any member of the Awards Committee who wishes to be eligible to receive an award must resign from the Committee before the call for nominations process begins.

• Award recipients will be honored at the 50th Anniversary Jubilee Celebration for FIU Nursing on May 4, 2024. Award recipients are expected to attend the Celebration. Awardees are also expected to participate in media activities related to the Celebration.

 

SUBMISSION PROCESS

Review the AWARD DESCRIPTION and SPECIFIC CRITERIA for the selected category.

In addition to completing the NOMINATION FORM & NOMINEE/NOMINATOR INFO (2 pages), please submit the following SUPPORTING INFORMATION as one (1) document in PDF format:

1. Identify the TOP THREE REASONS (in bullet format) this nominee should be considered for a Distinguished Nursing Alumna/Alumnus Award (maximum 1 page).
2. Include an ABBREVIATED CV/RESUME (maximum 2 pages).
3. Attach LETTERS OF SUPPORT from two (2) people who can attest to how the nominee meets the specific award criteria. An interesting story/example reflective of the nominee's award is also helpful and may be part of a support letter (maximum 2 pages for each letter).
4. Provide DOCUMENTATION that illustrates the involvement and any measurable results attributable to the nominee. The documentation demonstrates excellence in professional achievement and exceptional leadership as stated in the award criteria. (maximum 3 pages).

 

PLEASE NOTE: If total application exceeds twelve (12) pages, your application WILL NOT be considered.

The information contained in this application will remain confidential and will be used solely for purposes of the award selection. A short description on the finalists will be posted on the NWCNHS website and printed in the program.. Materials submitted will become the property of the FIU 50th Anniversary Awards Committee.
