CAPS Philosophy of Serving

Years of the Pregnancy Help Movement have proven out the most effective services and philosophy for helping those in crisis with the result of saved lives and healthy families. CAPS uses Biblical tried and true methodologies to serve those facing unintended pregnancies; giving women and couples the tools to make life affirming choices for their pregnancies. We follow Jesus in His modeled behavior toward those who needed His healing, His help and His salvation.

• Pro-life advocacy can be expressed with activism, protest, through legislation or it can be an individual ministry-based alternative. All of these are necessary to the pro-life movement. CAPS is the latter, a ministry to individuals, one pregnancy, one woman or couple, one baby at a time.
• CAPS is a licensed professional medical clinic where ministry happens.
• We believe in modeling Love, Empathy and Grace with the knowledge that
  • Love is unappealing when it has an Agenda
  • Empathy is undiscovered when couched in Advice
  • Grace loses when Judgment comes first
• We listen more than we speak.
• We respect the dignity of each patient as a woman made in the image of God.
• We give women all the tools they need to make a life-affirming choice; a choice she herself needs to make. She will flourish when she has made that choice.
• We help our patients see possibilities for their pregnancy and alternatives to abortion without manipulation.
• We love all of our patients, whatever their past or present choices, just as Jesus loved us while we were yet sinners.

Every volunteer/role/position at CAPS is vital to excellent care and service to our patients.

Our successful methods in care are rooted in biblical ministry and proven out in modern day research as well as over 20 years of service to San Diego communities.

Statement of Faith

• We believe the Bible to be the only inspired Word of God and free from error. It constitutes the only authoritative infallible standard and guide for faith and living practice.
• We believe there is one God, the creator and preserver of all things. He exists eternally in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, who are of one substance and equal in power and glory.
• We believe man is created in the image of God. Therefore, man’s life is unique and sacred. However, since the disobedience of Adam, mankind is in a state of depravity and all mankind is under the sentence of eternal separation from God. Under this sentence, man can only be saved by the grace of God, through faith, on the basis of the work of Jesus Christ and by the agency of the Holy Spirit.
• We believe that Jesus Christ is the eternal, only begotten Son of God the Father. Jesus was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of virgin birth. Jesus is true God and true man, and is the only mediator between God and man. We believe in the miracles performed by Jesus. To effect salvation, Jesus lived a sinless life and died on the cross as sinful man’s substitute, shedding the blood for the remission of sins. On the third day, Jesus rose from the dead in the body which had been sealed in the tomb. Jesus ascended into heaven and is at the right hand of God the Father as Lord of lords, and is the Head of the Church. Jesus shall come again in power and glory to earth to judge all men.
• We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit and that the Holy Spirit is the third person of the Holy Trinity. The Holy Spirit applies to those who have accepted Christ. The work of Christ is to renew the Christian’s nature through re-generation and sanctification, giving spiritual gifts to build up the body of Christ, the Church.
• We believe the believer, having turned to God in repentance and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, is accountable to God for living a life separate from sin and characterized by the fruit of the Holy Spirit, spreading the gospel, and for contributing to the edification of fellow believers in the church.
• We believe that at the end of the age the bodies of the dead shall be raised. The righteous through faith in Jesus Christ shall enter into the full possession of eternal life and joy in the presence of God, and the unrighteous outside of Christ shall be condemned to eternal punishment and death outside of the presence of God.
• We believe in the spiritual unity of believers in our Lord Jesus Christ with equality across racial, gender, class and denominational differences.
• We believe in chastity outside of marriage and fidelity within. We believe in the sanctity of marriage between one man and one woman as taught in the Bible. Therefore, all staff and volunteers commit to a lifestyle of sexual purity, and will refrain from engaging in any sexual relationships outside the bonds of Christian marriage.
• We believe that human life begins at conception and is valued by God from conception onward.
• We believe that abortion is not a biblically acceptable option to pregnancy, regardless of rape or incest.

Statement of Principle

• CAPS Pregnancy+ Medical Clinics (CAPS) is an outreach of Jesus Christ through His church. Therefore, CAPS embodied in its volunteers, is committed to presenting the Gospel of our Lord to those seeking our services, ministering both in word and in deed. Commensurate with this purpose, those who labor as Clinic personnel are expected to know Christ as their Savior and Lord.
• CAPS is committed to providing its patient with accurate information about both prenatal development and abortion procedures and its complications.
• CAPS is committed to assisting women to carry to term by providing emotional support and practical assistance. Through the provisions of God’s people and the community at large, women may face the future with hope and plan constructively for themselves and their babies.
• CAPS never discriminates in providing services because of race, creed, color, national origin, age or marital status of its patients.
• CAPS never advises, provides, or refers for abortions or abortifacients.
• CAPS offers all pregnancy services free of charge. There may be some STI services that are offered low cost to patients. If the patients appear to be at a financial disadvantage and are unable to pay, the medical personnel have the authority to waive small charges, or to seek approval for fee waivers from the Executive Director.
• CAPS is committed to creating an awareness within the local community of the needs of pregnant women and of the fact that abortion only compounds human need rather than solving it.
• CAPS does not refer for contraceptives or contraceptive services. (Women seeking contraceptive information may be referred to their physician for counsel.)
• CAPS recognizes the validity of adoption as one alternative to abortion, but is not biased toward adoption when compared to other life-saving alternatives. CAPS is independent of adoption agencies, relating to them in the same manner as to other helpful referral sources. CAPS receives no payment of any kind from these agencies, does not enter contractual relationships with them, and does not share combined office space. Adoption agencies are not established under the auspices of CAPS. CAPS neither initiates, nor facilitates independent adoptions.

Mission Statement

• Assisting those facing unintended pregnancies with medical services, education, and resources in a caring and confidential environment.

Statement of Commitment

I believe I am called by God to minister with compassion to women and couples facing unplanned pregnancies.

I desire to be His light in darkness by speaking the truth in love.

I hereby pledge that as a volunteer I will:

1. Attend all volunteer meetings required by CAPS to include initial in-office training and four in-services per year.
2. Pray regularly for my part in the ministry and for the ministry as a whole.
3. Fellowship with other believers for encouragement and edification (this means being part of a local Christian church).
4. Give a one year commitment of at least one shift per week. Intern commitments may vary per agreement with Patient Services Manager. Absences should be rare as CAPS is a professional medical clinic and staffing is critical. As much advance notice as possible should be given for vacations, illness, etc.
5. Be reliable when assigned to patient services, office tasks, fund-raising, representation with churches, and other tasks.
6. Keep accurate and up-to-date records and chart documentation when assigned.
7. Give advance notice of resignation from this program and participation in an exit interview.

In return for my volunteer work, I will receive from the staff at CAPS:

Confidentiality/Non-Disclosure Agreement

CAPS is a place that is built on trust. We provide security, counsel, and support to those we serve. In order to gain and retain the trust of our patients it is essential that we agree to a high standard of confidentiality.

By agreeing to this form, you are agreeing to hold the confidences of all patients served and you do affirm that you will not divulge patient data to any unauthorized person for any reason. Neither will you directly nor indirectly use, or allow the use of, CAPS data for any purpose other than that directly associated with your official assigned duties. ALL PATIENT INFORMATION, including financial data, is strictly confidential. Furthermore, you will not, either by direct action or by counsel, discuss, recommend, or suggest to any unauthorized person the nature or content of any CAPS information.

The protection of CAPS organizational confidential information is vital to the interests and success of CAPS. Such confidential information includes, but is not limited to, the following examples:

• Compensation data
• Financial information
• Marketing strategies
• Pending projects and proposals
• Proprietary production processes
• Personnel/Payroll records
• Conversations between any persons associated with CAPS

Employees/Volunteers who improperly use or disclose confidential information will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment and legal action, even if they do not actually benefit from the disclosed information.

I accept the responsibility to act as an advocate on behalf of the men and women who visit/in the care of CAPS; to give accurate information, emotional support, and spiritual guidance.

I will at all times uphold them as well as the policies and procedures established by the Board of Directors of CAPS. I understand that by signing this agreement, I am held to the statement of values including CAPS' Mission, Vision, Statement of Faith, Confidentiality/ Nondisclosure Agreement, and Commitments listed on this document set by CAPS its Director, and Board of Directors.
