Thank you for your interest in volunteering at Hold Your Horses. Our volunteer community is incredible and so special to us (& the horses). We have multiple options for volunteers including barn chores in the morning (7:45am to 9:30am) and afternoon (3:30pm to 5:00pm). PLEASE NOTE: for our barn chores shifts, we are currently prioritizing individuals with prior horse experience. We also have opportunities to serve in our sessions as a therapy aid, horse leader, or barn aid. After you complete this application, you will automatically be added to our weekly volunteer newsletter so you can learn more, view open shifts, and respond to other volunteer opportunities (you can unsubscribe anytime).

Current Client Session Volunteer Openings!

We have three new opportunities for folks to get involved and support the clients we serve. We are currently looking for therapy aids, horse leaders, and barn aids to support our sessions.
Therapy Aid: Therapy Aids support clinicians during mounted and groundwork occupational therapy sessions at HYH. They help maintain client safety, assist with session setup and transitions, and provide consistent, attentive support throughout therapeutic activities. This role requires a calm presence, strong awareness, and the ability to follow clinician direction to ensure safe, meaningful experiences for clients.Horse Leader: The Horse Leader is a session equine handler who supports Hold Your Horses programming, including Occupational Therapy with Horses (hippotherapy/OT) and other equine session support within established or developing programming. The role ensures safe, expected movement, smooth session flow, and two-way communication with the session team. Above all, the Horse Leader prioritizes the horse — supporting their confidence, comfort, and regulation as the foundation of every session.Barn Aid: Barn Aids are responsible for preparing horses for sessions and maintaining a clean, safe, and organized barn environment. This includes catching, grooming, tacking, stall care, and ensuring each horse is comfortable, checked, and ready on time for sessions.
Current Barn Chore Shift Openings!

For the safety of you and our herd, we only train applicants who can commit to a weekly or bi-weekly shift for at least 3 months (you can always sign-up for additional open shifts). After this onboarding phase, volunteers can move into a substitution role if a regular shift doesn't work for them. Some exceptions apply based on experience! You can always reach out to us if your availability changes or you see a new opening in our weekly volunteer newsletter. Please be advised that at this time, for barn chore shifts, we are prioritizing individuals with prior horse experience.

Release & Hold Harmless
I am volunteering my time at Hold Your Horses, a MN non-profit, and understand the potential danger that could incur in mounting, riding, walking, feeding or grooming horses or while participating in project work related to care of the horse and property. Understanding those risks I hereby, release Hold Your Horses, its officers, director, employees and anyone else directly or indirectly connected with Hold Your Horses from any liability whatsoever in the event of injury or damage of any nature (or perhaps even death) to the person named above, caused by equines (horses) or volunteer activities on the property located at 5265 Woodland Trail, Greenfield, MN 55357.

I understand and warrant that this Release and Hold Harmless Agreement, is being voluntarily and intentionally signed and agreed to, and that in signing this Release and Hold Harmless I know and understand that this Release and Hold Harmless Agreement may further limit the liability of Hold Your Horses to include any activity whatsoever, involving injury and/or damage to property.

I further voluntarily agree and warrant to Release and Hold Harmless Hold Your Horses from any liability whatsoever, including, but not limited to, injuries, death, or property damages from: mounting, riding, dismounting, walking, grooming, feeding, use of horse barn, paddocks, and farm property, and horse tack in any capacity, including falling off whether the horse is bucking, flipping, (or) spooked.

In the event emergency medical treatment/aid is required due to illness or injury during the process of receiving services or while being on the property of the agency, I authorize Hold Your Horses, LLC to:
1. Secure and retain medical treatment and transportation if needed.
2. Release client records upon request to the authorized individual or agency involved in the medical emergency treatment.
This authorization includes x-ray, surgery, hospitalization medication and any treatment procedure deemed “life saving” by the physician.
