A great Northstar begins by choosing who you are serving:

    The player,
or the devs making the game or the community.

  • 12

If you decide that you're serving the players, first visit the Milestone Production Board

Look through everything there and find something that you could get really passionate about.

    Press
    Enter
  • 14

Once you've read it, you'll have a clear understanding of what we are creating for the players.

    Press
    Enter
  • 15

You don't have to do what's precisely on that board, but what we want you to do is take one piece or one feature and go all in on building that feature.

    Press
    Enter
  • 16

Whichever you choose, the first thing you want to do is think. 🧠

Ask yourself: "What problem would I enjoy solving the most?" 🤔

    Press
    Enter
  • 17

If you are creating a crew dedicated to helping developers or the community, think about the problem you are seeking to solve. 🤔

    Press

  • 18

We create features to evoke emotions in players, not just to create features. 🛠️➡️😊

    Press

  • 19

If you decide that you're serving the players, think about the emotion you want to create. 🤔

What kind of feeling do you want them to have through your feature?

    Press

  • 20

The feeling you want to create should match up in some way with the overall pillars of the game. 🎮🤔
You can find these pillars in our design documentation. 📚👀

After taking a quick look at the Miro board, I found a feature that I would enjoy working on (1). 👀🎯

I can see that no one, except the sound team, is working on it so far (2) (3) (4). 🎧🎹

Looking at the description of the individual story, I can see that it's all about making a system. 📚🔍
This system allows people to interact with the items around them in an intuitive and understandable way. 🤝

Rather than just work on this tiny little feature, I would like to form a crew. 👥🤝

  • 28

We aim to create a system that produces surprising joy and relief in the player's heart. 😄

Why? Because they understand everything naturally and intrinsically. 🌱💡

That seems to be the whole idea behind the opening of the hand in showing that it's possible to pick up the Jelly Dew.

This can be the foundation of our Northstar 🌟

    Press

  • 29

We could make our Northstar about creating a first-person interaction system. 🌟🎮

However, that wouldn't focus on the ACTUAL problem we're solving or the ACTUAL feeling we want to create. 😕🤔

    Press

  • 30

We want to step back and ask the question, "why are we creating this in the first place?" The reason we want to create it is that we want the people to understand the game intrinsically without any effort. 🌟🎮

We don't want to tell people to create a feature. We want to give our Crew a mission and a feeling they want to create so that they have creative options in how they solve the problem. 💡👥

From that we have our Northstar:
