Per LanguageBird's terms of service:
Refunds
Once tuition is paid, no refunds will be issued. LanguageBird® will assist to set up a schedule with the student and teacher to promote consistent progress toward course completion. Students typically begin their course of study within 3-10 days. Once the schedule is set and lessons have commenced, there are no refunds.
Expiration of Lessons
From the date tuition is paid, a student has 180 days to schedule and attend the first lesson. If the student does not attend the first lesson within the first 180 days, the course will expire. Each course lesson hour is considered a credit. Course lesson credits will expire, and you will forfeit any unused credits exactly eight months after your enrollment date for a full-year program and four months for a semester program. Any package of Tutoring, Test Prep, or Conversational Lessons expires exactly eight months after your enrollment date. It is up to the student and teacher to plan to ensure the student stays on track and completes all their allotted lessons each cycle.
Transferability
Lesson credits/hours are not transferable to another person, company, family member, or entity.
Tardiness
If student is late to a lesson, no additional time will be added to the lesson. If a teacher is late to a lesson, he/she is obligated to make up that time to the student at either the end of the current lesson or during a future lesson.
If student is tardy, teacher will be obligated to wait for the student for 15 minutes after the scheduled starting time of the lesson. After 15 minutes, teacher reserves the right to cancel the lesson and note the session as a “no show.” No credit hours will be refunded. Students must purchase an additional single lesson or package of additional lessons from LanguageBird® to make up the hour toward their total course credits if they are taking a High School program for credit.
Equipment Failure
LanguageBird® is not responsible for any interruptions to live online lessons due to slowness or failure of student’s computer hardware, software, Internet connection or related technology.
In the event live, online lessons are interrupted due to slowness or failure of teacher’s computer hardware, software, Internet connection or related technology, the following actions will be taken:
Lesson will continue without video. Credits for such lessons will not be refunded.
If lesson quality is still deemed insufficient by teacher, the lesson will need to be rescheduled and an additional session will be charged to your account as make up.
It is the student's responsibility to log in to Microsoft Teams as well as take the student orientation course provided prior to the first lesson. If there are any technical difficulties, please call 844-700-2473 or email support@languagebird.com prior to your first lesson to be prepared for class.
Absences / Late Cancellations
If a student needs to be absent, please note that the absence may affect the student’s projected completion date for the course.
Full Year and Single Semester Programs (including our Achieve and Excel Programs) contain a set number of lessons (hours), 24 and 12 respectively. Students are required to complete the specified number of lessons in order to complete the courses. Following the steps outlined in the Student Orientation, if a student cancels 24 hours or more before a scheduled lesson, the lesson may be rescheduled. If a student cancels fewer than 24 hours before the lesson or does not show-up for the lesson within 15 minutes of the scheduled lesson start time, the lesson credit will be deducted as if the lesson had taken place and the student will be required to pay to make-up the missed lesson. The credit card on file for the student will be charged an Absences / Late Cancellations fee of $100 (the approximate prorated sum of each lesson) per missed LanguageBird© lesson. Absences / Late Cancellation fees are calculated weekly for the previous week and charged at that time to the credit card on file.
Tutoring/Test Prep, or Conversational Lessons, and Chirp Room© Chat Rooms are NOT subject to the Absences / Late Cancellation fee. If a student is absent from or late to any of these, the lesson will be considered as if it took place, and no make-up will be available.
If a teacher needs to cancel a Middle/High School lesson, or Tutoring/Test Prep/Conversational Lesson, the student will be assigned an alternate make-up lesson. The teacher will arrange the make-up lesson directly with the student. If a teacher needs to be absent from a Chirp Room© Chat Room, another LanguageBird© teacher will serve as the substitute teacher so that the Chirp Room© Chat Room may be held as scheduled.
Purchasing Extra Lessons
Students who do not cancel and reschedule lessons with 24 hours’ notice, will be charged to purchase additional single lessons to make up the class they late canceled or missed in order to fulfill credit requirements for a High School Program. If a student is absent or late cancels a tutoring or conversational lesson, they forfeit the lesson. Some students may wish to purchase additional lessons to review topics or vocabulary or gaps in their education. Contact support@languagebird.com for more details.
Proficiency Learning
Each LanguageBird student must gain proficiency in class material before moving to the next level of study. To demonstrate concept understanding of the course standards (ACTFL standards for language learning) each student must attain a 70% comprehension and proficiency in their course as assessed by their course instructor and/or LanguageBird. Some students will complete the standards in the typical base amount of sessions while others will need mastery learning sessions to ensure proficiency or to account for absences during the semester. Canceled class times, unexcused absences or lack of progress may all result in the need for masterly learning sessions to be scheduled at an additional cost.
I understand that LanguageBird reserves the right to determine if my student requires Proficiency Learning sessions to master course material and meet attendance requirements, which may be mandated by the State or LanguageBird's accrediting bodies.
