  • Andrea Belz is doing a research study about how kids learn about science in laboratories.

  • We are asking you to take part in this research study because we want to learn more about how you see yourself as a scientist after you do activities in laboratories

  • If you agree to be in this study, you will be asked to answer some questions online about your day and your experience in the laboratory, and if you like science that day.

  • Sometimes things happen in research studies.  In this study, you will be asked to answer questions about your day and if you like science.

  • People also have good things happen to them when they are in research studies.  The good things may be that you might find that you like science and math.

  • We will ask your parents to give their permission for you to take part in this study. Even if your parents say “yes” you can still say “no”. You do not have to join this study; it is up to you. You will still be invited to do all the camp activities.

  • You can say “yes” now and change your mind later. All you have to do is tell us you want to stop. No one will be mad at you if you don’t want to be in the study or if you join the study and change your mind later and stop.

  • Before you say yes or no to being in this study, we will answer any questions you have. If you join the study, you can ask questions at any time, just tell the researcher (the person in charge of this project) that you have a question. You can contact Dr. Belz at abelz@usc.edu or (213) 740-4530.

  • You will receive $5 in camp currency each time you complete the survey.
