    YOUTH ARTIST APPLICATION
  • APPLICATION DEADLINE: October 9, 2023

    No applications will be accepted after that date.

  • Artists 17 years old and under whose relatives have been accepted into the Fair may sell their work in their relatives’ booth but may not enter Juried Competition. There is no booth fee for youths, but they must submit a separate application and must be present at the Fair. To request an application for Youth Artists, please text or call 480.285.6626 or email excomm@heardguild.org.

     

    Artists in grades 7 through 12 may enter their art in the Youth Art Show & Sale which takes place on the same weekend as the Indian Fair & Market. All art submitted by artists in those grades will be judged the week prior to the Fair & Market. See www.heardguild.org/youth-artist-show-sale for further information.

     

    Please note that an artist who is 18 at the time of the Fair and attends high school may enter either the Fair & Market as an adult or the Youth Art Show and Sale, but not both.

  • Eligibility

    The Heard Museum and the Heard Museum Guild comply with the requirements of the Indian Arts & Crafts Act of 1990 (P.L. 101-644) which makes it illegal to market an art or craft item in a manner that falsely suggests it is Indian-produced. Under the Act, an Indian is defined as a member of any federally or officially State-recognized Indian Tribe, or an individual certified an as Indian by an Indian tribe.     First-time applicants must include a copy of his or her tribal enrollment form.

    If you have applied in previous years, you do not need to send a copy.

  • Classification

    Select one or two of the following classifications of your artwork.

    If you select two classifications, mark your primary classification with a "1," the second with a "2."

    You may only sell artwork in these classifications at the Fair, and only items in these classification(s) will be allowed into Juried Competition. Please note that only artists aged 12-17 may enter Juried Competition.

    • Jewelry includes fetish jewelry.
    • Sculpture includes Non-Pueblo wooden carvings and fetishes.
    • Diverse Art includes beadwork and quillwork (including beaded jewelry), personal attire,
    • dolls, flutes, drums, bows and arrows, cultural items, etc.

    My typed signature indicates that I meet the eligibility requirements of the Fair, that this application is true and complete, and that my relative agrees that I will share their booth. This application will become part of the Native American Artists Resource Collection of the Heard Museum Library and Archives and will not be returned.
