The Heard Museum and the Heard Museum Guild comply with the requirements of the Indian Arts & Crafts Act of 1990 (P.L. 101-644) which makes it illegal to market an art or craft item in a manner that falsely suggests it is Indian-produced. Under the Act, an Indian is defined as a member of any federally or officially State recognized Indian tribe, or an individual certified as an Indian by an Indian Tribe.
  • First-Time Applicants

A first-time applicant must submit a copy of his or her tribal enrollment form or Artisan Letter from a Federally or officially State recognized tribe with this application.  Canadian Indians must provide a copy of a Canadian Indian Status Card.

If you submitted this information in a previous year's application, you do not need to submit another copy.

  • Or you may email Tribal Documentation to excomm@heardguild.org or mail to this address:

  • Youth Artists

Artists 17 years old and under at the time of the Fair whose relatives have been accepted into the Fair may sell their work in their relatives' booth, but may not enter Juried Competition. There is no application or booth fee for youths but they must submit a separate application and proof of tribal enrollment and must be present at the Fair. To request an application for Youth Artists, please text or call 480.285.6626 or email excomm@heardguild.org.

Artists in grades 7 through 12 (even if they are 18 at the time of the Fair) may enter their art in the Youth Art Show & Sale which takes place on the same weekend as our Indian Fair & Market. All art submitted by Youth Artists in those grades will be judged the week prior to the Fair & Market See www.heardguild.org/youth-art-show-sale for further information.

Please note that an artist who is 18 at the time of the Fair and attends high school may enter either the Fair & Market as an adult or the Youth Art Show & Sale, but not both.

  • Classification

Select one or two of the following classifications of your artwork.

You may sell only artwork in these classifications at the Fair, and only items in your approved classifications will be allowed into Juried Competition. To see descriptions of the classifications and divisions, visit www.heardguild.org/artists/.

    • Jewelry includes fetish jewelry.
    • Sculpture includes fetishes and non-Pueblo wooden carvings.
    • Diverse Art includes beadwork and quillwork (including beaded jewelry), personal attire, dolls, flutes, drums, bows and arrows, cultural items, etc.
  • Digital Images

Four (4) digital images of artwork in each of the selected classifications are required.

Three of the images must be of separate pieces and must be representative of what you plan to show and sell at the Fair. The fourth image may be a close-up of one of the pieces. Work must have been completed within the last two (2) years.

The image files must be in JPG format and no larger than 2 MB (2,000 KB). If you want to submit images of a higher resolution, email them to excomm@heardguild.org or send them on a CD or DVD. Include the same information about your artwork as requested below. Label the CD or DVD with your name and "IFM 2024." We also accept flash drives (aka thumb drives) but please be aware that the drive will not be returned.

The quality of the images you submit is critical: the better the images, the better your chance of being accepted in the Fair. Please contact us if you have any questions or concerns.
