Purpose
In light of recent events and the many questions families are navigating, Seattle Play Therapy is exploring the creation of a parent support discussion group focused on how to talk with children about ICE and community safety in developmentally attuned, grounded ways.
This group would offer a supportive space for caregivers to:
- Process their own reactions and concerns
- Learn age-appropriate language and strategies
- Ask questions in a facilitated, non-judgmental environment
- Strengthen their ability to provide safety and reassurance at home
Format
- 60 minute virtual discussion group
- Facilitated by an SPT clinician
- Psychoeducation + open discussion
- Practical scripts and tools provided
- Emphasis on regulation, cultural humility, and community care
Who It’s For
Parents and caregivers who:
- Are unsure how to answer children’s questions about ICE
- Notice increased anxiety, sleep changes, or behavioral shifts
- Want guidance on balancing honesty with reassurance
- Would benefit from connection with other caregivers
