Parents for Public Schools (PPS) is a thirty-two-year-old national nonprofit organization that currently has nine chapters in seven states. PPS is a public education advocacy organization whose mission is to advance the role of families and communities in securing a high-quality public education for every child. We believe that quality public education is vital to our democracy and to America’s future.
The PPS national office, located in Jackson, Mississippi, has a staff of five.
We seek an applicant who has a proven record of accomplishment and who can work well with our small team. The Director of Development may work out of the national office or may work remotely from anywhere in the country.
Job Summary
The Director of Development reports to the PPS Executive Director and will plan and implement a development and fundraising program to provide for the short- and long-term needs of the organization.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Work with the executive director to establish fundraising objectives for the organization
- Establish and maintain a list of potential financial sources including corporations, foundations, and individuals
- Provide fundraising information, training, and support to PPS chapters
- Research and prepare grant requests, proposals, and collateral materials for solicitation requests
- Oversee the annual donor appeal and provide oversight for records of receipts and disbursements of funds
- Plan fundraising events that effectively communicate the purposes of the organization
- Assist executive director in marketing the PPS Parent Engagement Program
- Provide information and support to the board of directors
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Required Skills/Abilities
- Extensive knowledge of fundraising strategies and principles
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Successful grant-writing experience
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of policies that favor charitable giving
- Proficient in Microsoft Office or other software in use by the organization
- Ability to multi-task
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in business, nonprofit administration, or public administration
- Proven ability to secure funding
- A minimum of five years of fundraising experience for a nonprofit organization highly preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing or experience in product sales or marketing a plus
Annual Salary Range
$85,000 - $115,000
