  • Media Shift Application

Please consider applying to our 15-week documentary storytelling program that provides beginning media makers - who often face structural barriers to getting their stories told - with access to training and production resources to produce a 7 to 10 minute documentary which elevates, amplifies, and celebrates multiple points of view.
  • Format: (000) 000-0000.

  • Schedule and time requirements

Attendance to all classes and the development of a successful public screening of your work is required to complete this training program. We meet at Public Media Network in downtown Kalamazoo at the Epic Center.

Training at our production facility is conducted every week.

It's expected that additional time and independent work will be done outside of structured class time, and we will show you how to schedule additional mentoring sessions during the first class so that we may offer assistance and input to complete your documentary on time.

  • Applicants who live in the City of Kalamazoo, City of Parchment, City of Galesburg, Comstock Township, Kalamazoo Township, or Oshtemo Township, and who are underrepresented in mainstream media, including those who are Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC), people living with low incomes, and people of other systemically excluded communities will be prioritized.

  • Interview Request Instructions

We'd appreciate an opportunity to meet in person and discuss your project as a collaboration and our expectations in training with you for this program.

Interviews are typically 30 minutes or less and are informal. Please choose a time after 2 PM on a Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday and we'll do our best to accommodate.

Please allow us the opportunity to confirm your appointment with you first so that we may be prepared.

Interview sessions will be held at Public Media Network, located at 359 S Kalamazoo Mall, Ste 300, Kalamazoo, MI 49007.
