1. Adults who have been convicted of abuse should not volunteer services in any church-sponsored activity or program for children, youth, or vulnerable adults.
2. Survivors of childhood abuse need the love and acceptance of this church family. Individuals who have such a history should discuss their desire to work with children, youth, or vulnerable adults with one of pastoral staff prior to engaging in any volunteer service.
3. All leaders working with children, youth, or vulnerable adults are required to be supervised by an active constituents of Christ Lutheran for a minimum of six months and agree to a background check.
4. All staff members will have criminal record checks run and references verified before employment begins.
5. All leaders should observe the “two leader/open door” rule, which requires leaders working with children, youth, or vulnerable adults to be accompanied by a second leader or to provide visual access to the room.
6. Leaders should have no one-on-one contact with children, youth, or vulnerable adults, without prior parental approval and notification of supervisor or pastoral designee.
7. Leaders should immediately report suspected or inappropriate behaviors to their supervisor or pastoral staff.
8. Leaders are required to be familiar with our policy and procedures as amended from time to time.
9. All leaders are required to complete this form and attend an awareness class every year.
