  • What is it?

SPR is a partnership between Denver Urgan Gardens, We Don't Waste, and Slow Food Denver, funded by the Healthy Food for Denver's Kids Initiative, designed to provide ECE-5 youth with the skills, values, and tools to:

    • Demostrate knowledge of food systems
    • Understand the value of food, nutrition, and growing your own food
    • Care for our planet
    • Build community around food
    • Foster confidence and creativity in the kitchen and the garden
    • Establish an overall healthier relationship with food that is founded in joy

    How does it work?

SPR is a seasonal program designed to engage the entire school. The various components include:

    • 4-8 lessons of Lil' Sprouts programming
    • 1 lesson of We Don’t Waste programming (5th grade only)
    • We Don't Waste-lead cafeteria food waste audit (whole school)
    • 3 lessons of DUG programming (ECE or kindergarden only)
    • A collective celebration (whole school)

    Expectations

We are so excited to work with your school! We just ask that teachers and school staff will communicate with SPR team, especially if scheduling changes are needed. Because our goal is to engage the whole school, at least one class per cohort (ECE/K, 1st-4th, 5th) must opt into programming (with the option for additional classes to opt in).

As much as possible, please coordinate with your colleagues to schedule as it's always ideal to stack lessons.
