  • The Community Foundation of Greater Dubuque is looking for community members interested in becoming Orton Gillingham Dyslexia tutors! Below is a brief overview of the program.

    • Timeframe: Lecture will start at the end of September with Practicum ending in July (10 months). 

    • Training Eligibility: To be eligible for training, the following needs to be submitted: Resume, Proof of degree (Bachelor’s or Master’s), 2 letters of recommendation.

    •  Lecture Classes:  The lecture part of the tutoring program consists of two days at the Children’s Dyslexia Center in Madison (15 Hours, total), 7.5-8 Days in Dubuque (60 Hours, total), Location TBD 

      • Any class missed will need to be made up in Madison

    • Practicum: Tutors to give 100 Lessons of 50 minutes each

      • Tutor 2 children, twice a week, for 50 minutes per session (Location and Time TBD)

      • Observed 10 times, 7 remotely and 3 in person 

    • Certification: Tutors will receive certification upon completion of the International Multisensory Structured Language Education Council accredited program. 

      • Must maintain 85% grade average on all work. 


    Tutors will receive training through a reverse scholarship that provides a no interest loan. That loan will be forgiven upon successful completion of the program and service for 2 years as a paid Dyslexia tutor through this program.
