Cover Crop Cost Share Information:
- Cover crops can be cost shared up to $25.00/acre.
- Trempealeau County has the right to set a maximum number of acres cost shared per producer per year.
- A producer must have a current NRCS 590 compliant Nutrient Management Plan (NMP).
- The land must remain in compliance with soil loss and NMP as long as the land is in producation.
- Priority may be given to first time applicants.
- If on rented land, the landowner will need to sign contract along with renter.
- DLM staff may perform cover crop compliance checks.
- The cost-share recipient must comply with all applicable Federal, State, County and local laws, regulations, ordinances, and code and the State of Wisconsin’s Agricultural Performance Standards and Prohibitions outlined in Subchapter II of NR151.
- The approval and execution of the Cost-Share Project is contingent upon the availability of program funds. The application will not be approved if funding is not available.
- The cost-share recipient must repay the full amount of cost-share payments to Trempealeau County if the recipient:
- Does not install, operate, or maintain the practice in perpetuity;
- Adopts or changes any land use, practice, or management which defeats the purpose of any of best management practice covered in the Cost-Share Agreement;
- Failure to comply with the State of Wisconsin’s Agricultural Performance Standards and Prohibitions; and
- Changing land use or management on the entire property described in the Cost-Share Agreement which may cause sources of pollution which were adequately managed at the time the Cost-Share Agreement was signed to produce an increased pollutant loading into surface water or groundwater. If such a change in land management occurs, the cost-share recipient will be required to control the source at his or her own expense or return the full amount of all cost-share payments.
- Repayment of cost-share payments is not required if the Department of Land Management determines a practice is rendered ineffective due to circumstances beyond the cost-share recipient’s control.
Additional project-specific conditions will be outlined in a County Cost-Share Agreement. This agreement will be filled out if Trempealeau County is able to cost-share the conservation practice.
