SSAL LEAGUE "3R's (Roles - Rules - Repercussions)" GUIDELINES
The SSAL's (Small School Athletic League) Mission Statement is to build a family environment and relationships within the league without hardships; to strive for fair game play and fun for all who are participating - Athletic Directors (AD's), coaches, officials, Board Members, athletes and parents. In support of these goals, we have put together the "3 R's (Roles - Rules - Repercussions)" guidelines.
All parents, coaches and AD’S and Assistant AD’S will need to sign this form acknowledging that these are the guidelines expected to be followed at ALL games and events being held within the SSAL League. AD’S will need to hold all parents and coaches sign copies in file, and upon request will need to provide. AD’S and coaches will provide a signed copy to the SSAL league before the season starts.
Athletic Directors (AD’S) the role of the AD’S are as follows:
Must set up all games within SSAL divisions, must set up all officials for all home games, including playoffs. Must have locations set up for home game play and provide all information needed to the opponent before season starts. An AD or Assistant AD must be present at all home games and if cannot be then an administration must be present! Representing AD will hold neutral ground to oversee the games of play and if any conflicts need to be addressed will meet with the opponent AD to work out, or may ask their board to be present. AD’S need to wait for a timeout or halftime of after the game to address officials on field. Home AD’S will also be responsible for reporting game scores by end of day game or games played. AD’S are to lead with sportsmanship for all their coaches, Athletes and parents to follow and if needed to address any conflict or warning provided to their coaches, parents or athletes.
COACHES - roles of coaches are as follows:
Is to be a teacher and/or mentor for all school athletes. Coaches will be responsible for allowing athletes to learn and play games with confidence, be responsible for guiding athletes and encouraging them to learn from their mistakes, and ensure athletes play with maximum effort and sportsmanship. Coaches need to understand that games are not always called fairly, but if need to address a concern of overlooked safety or call, can either call a timeout or address at halftime or on conclusion of the game. Coaches need to follow AD’S and school direction and coach with sportsmanship-like attitudes.
OFFICIALS - The officials' role is as follows:
To keep the games fair and fun, to call games fairly and abide by the SSAL league rules and regulations that are in place for each participating sport. Try to arrive 15 minutes early to the designated start time. *NOTE: ALL parties involved within the SSAL must allow officials to call the game and trust and abide by their calls (NOT ALWAYS FAIR).
SSAL BOARD MEMBERS - roles for board members as follows:
Maintain a level playing field for all teams and athletes. The SSAL board is made up of three(3) members (Commissioner, co commissioner, sitting AD chair) Board members will address any concern or needs as a whole of any school on issues arising within the league that cannot be settled between schools or not properly handled by the participating school involved (including coaches, parents, AD’S or athletes if needed) the SSAL board will address all league matters as a quorum and will strive to maintain a fun and fair environment for all schools.
PARENTS - roles for parents as follows:
To be loving and supportive and positive within the league and their student athletes. Support and cheer for their school in a positive and encouraging manner. NOT question the officials, show positive sportsmanship, and may be on the sidelines but not in the team area. And not trying to coach the teams.
