  • Background and Purpose

    TRA Medical Imaging is proud to have over 100 years of experience delivering the highest quality medical imaging
    services to the community. The TRA Medical Imaging Foundation, a nonprofit entity, was created with the mission and vision to be an exemplary community partner in promoting better health and wellbeing now and for future generations. The TRA Medical Imaging Foundation serves to promote Imaging Sciences as a career choice for better health and wellbeing by advancing access to medical imaging services and workforce development opportunities. TRA’s Medical Imaging Foundation’s Education Fund provides financial support to individuals interested in developing their career in Imaging Sciences through scholarships, mentorship, job shadowing, and residency opportunities.

    Scholarship

    The TRA Medical Imaging Foundation Education Fund Scholarship provides:

    1. Financial awards up to $3,500 for students enrolled in the Radiologic Sciences Advanced Certification Computed Tomography (CT) at Tacoma Community College. These funds are provided over the course of the program and are contingent on meeting expectations of the school, maintaining a minimum of a 3.0 GPA and participating in the TRA Medical Imaging Foundation Mentorship Program.

    2. Ongoing mentorship from a TRA radiologist and/or technologist to help develop key talent through career development, education, learning, and boosting engagement. Scholars are required to participate a minimum of 30 minutes monthly in this mentoring program.

    3. Participation in the TRA Medical Imaging Foundation Scholarship Alumni Program to help guide and support future scholars and promote Radiology Technology and Diagnostic Medical Sonography as professional careers. 

    Eligibility

    The TRA Imaging Foundation Scholarship is open to individuals who:

    1. Are enrolled at Tacoma Community College in the Advanced Certification Computed Tomography (CT) Program.
    2. Are U.S. citizens or permanent residents.

    3. Have completed the TRA Medical Imaging Foundation Scholarship application process.


      Application Schedule and Deadlines
    • Applications are accepted starting Tuesday, September 12, 2023, 9:00 a.m. (Pacific Time)
    • Applications will not be accepted after Monday, October 2, 2023, 5:00 p.m. (Pacific Time)
    • Award recipients will be notified by email, Monday, October 16, 2023
  • Scholarship Application Process

    Application Materials
    Potential TRA Scholars must submit the: (1) Biographical Information form; (2) Release Authorization form; (3) one Essay; (4) one Letter of Recommendation; and (5) Scholarship Disclosure form.

    Acceptance Policy
    Award recipients will be notified via email by October 16, 2023, 5:00 p.m. (Pacific Time). Applicants not awarded a scholarship will be notified by email.

    Scholars are asked to agree to have their names released publicly and to participate in academic ceremonies, such as commencement, and in donor stewardship activities, which may involve attending events, etc. In addition, Scholars are expected to participate in the TRA Medical Imaging Foundation Mentorship Program, which includes bi-monthly meetings of 30 minutes in person or via virtual.

    Scholarship Renewal Criteria
    To qualify for the scholarship, Scholars must show satisfactory progress toward a degree by meeting the following minimum requirements:

    1.   Maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0.
    2.   Be consecutively enrolled each quarter.
    3.   Scholars will also be required to be actively involved in mentorship.
    4.   Students who take a leave of absence from the program must reapply.

  • I, (full name) wish to be considered as a participant in the TRA Medical Imaging Foundation Scholarship Program. I understand that this scholarship is primarily intended to support full-time study and is predicated on my admission into the Advanced Certification Computed Tomography (CT) Program at Tacoma Community College.
     
    Permission is hereby granted to officials to release acknowledgment of my acceptance into the program. I understand that, with my permission, portions of this application may be released to the public should I be offered and accept the award, and that participation in the TRA Medical Imaging Foundation Mentoring Program, donor stewardship activities and academic ceremonies will be expected.

  • Part 3: Essays
    One essay is required.

    Each applicant is required to submit 1 essay of no more than 500 words each. Essays must be typed on a sheet attached to this form. They should be double-spaced with one-inch margins and 12-point type.

    One letter of recommendation is required: 

    Letter of recommendation should be from an employer, professional associate, colleague or from current/affiliated teachers or advisors who can discuss professionalism, work ethic, learning aptitude, and can share qualities and examples that make you a strong candidate for this scholarship program.

    Not accepted: Letter of recommendation from your TCC Program Director or your relatives/immediate family members will not be accepted.

    ·        I agree to allow faculty Tacoma Community College Faculty to disclose academic information related to grading, assessment outcomes, didactic and clinical participation and overall performance to my mentor and TRA Scholarship Committee members.
     
    ·        I agree to meet with my mentor a minimum of once monthly and to participate in scholarship related events.
     
    ·        I agree to maintain a minimum of a 3.0 GPA for the duration of the scholarship fund disbursement.
     
    ·        I agree to notify my mentor and the TRA Scholarship Committee within 10 business days if I am facing academic challenges including poor didactic or clinical performance, failure to meet course or program objectives or dismissal from the program.
