Estimate Builder Logo
  • Estimate Builder

Create the most accurate estimate possible for each procedure...no guesswork!
  • Pick your procedure(s) to generate a printable list of items for your estimate.

Scroll all the way down to see the list & print it.

    • Helpful Hints: definitely read on your first visit. Use triangle button to show →
    • If there are injectable or topical pain medications that your practice does not carry, we can provide them...no worries!

If your practice uses an "anesthesia package" that bundles together premeds, pain injections, etc., you do not need to quote for these separately. This tool generates a comprehensive list so nothing gets missed, but you know your software best!

If the pet will have multiple concurrent procedures, reach out by text or email so we can tweak the total anesthesia time and surgery fee. These are typically less for combined procedures than they are for separate procedures. Then, just quote any redundant items once.

      For cats:

      • Substitute Zorbium for hydromorphone & postop buprenorphine injection
      • Ignore the NSAIDs completely or use Onsior x 3 days

For longer canine surgeries, we may need to repeat the hydromorphone intra-op, typically 3-4 hours after the first dose was given on induction.

Please text or email if you have any questions about how to quote for a particular case – we’re happy to help. This tool may not be able to account for every situation!

If you have any feedback on this tool, please let us know!  We're happy to use your input to make it better!

    • ORTHOPEDIC PROCEDURES

    • Selecting the correct procedure for a stifle injury can be tricky,
so follow this flow chart to make things easier.

Since many smaller dogs have concurrent ACL & patellar luxation issues, it's best to quote for correction of both, regardless of physical exam findings. Dual pathology may not be apparent until the joint is open in surgery. Quoting for both ACL & patellar procedures gives us the latitude to fix everything without pausing surgery to call the client and increase the estimate (which they hate!). If dual correction is not necessary, the client's bill is lower and everyone is happy!

    • Mastectomy

If a bilateral mastectomy is needed, it will have to be a staged procedure, with the 2nd surgery occurring 8 weeks after the first to allow for adequate healing. If we attempt to remove both chains at the same time, there will not be enough skin to close the incision. As a courtesy, the 2nd procedure will be $250 less than the initial procedure.

It’s always best to prepare the client for bilateral mastectomy just to be safe. We often find additional masses under anesthesia that were not detectable prior to surgery. If we don't, then the client’s bill will be lower, and they will be happy.

If it turns out that we only have to remove part of one mammary chain the surgery fee will be reduced accordingly.

OVH is mandatory for intact females, and is included in the surgery fee.

    • Ovarian remnant

Be 100% sure that nobody in contact with the patient is using estrogen transdermal medication -- ask them several times, as sometimes owners don’t want to admit it or don't remember what type(s) of meds they or a family member are taking. This type of estrogen exposure can mimic signs of an ovarian remnant, but exploratory would be negative and the patient would have been put through an invasive procedure for no reason.
