    CAT/KITTEN FOSTER CARE AGREEMENT

  • A TLC Foster Parent = a foster parent(s) that has applied and become a foster parent for TLC.  These foster parents take cat/kitten(s) from us when they can.

    A Foster-Finder = a foster parent(s) that has found or rescued the cat/kitten(s) they are fostering and subsequently has requested that Tender Loving Cats, Inc. (TLC) accept te cat/kitten(s) into our adoption program contingent on the cat/kitten(s) being fostered by the finder.

  • I hereby agree to the following terms and conditions of this "Cat/Kitten(s) Foster Care Agreement:

  • Tender Loving Cats, Inc. Goals and Mission. 

    1. Foster Parent(s) shall read the goals and mission of Tender Loving Cats, Inc. (TLC) on our website www.tenderlovingcats.org
    2. Foster Parent(s) who have applied and have been approved by TLC are TLC Volunteer(s)
    3. Foster Parent(s) shall assist in working toward TLC’s goals and shall represent TLC’s mission within the community
    4. Foster Parent(s) shall read and abide by TLC’s foster care introductions & guidelines
    5. Foster Parent(s) shall keep TLC’s foster cat/kitten(s) indoors and shall not expose them to other cats that have access to outdoors
    6. Foster Parent(s) shall follow all of TLC’s instructions with regard to medical care, housing and socialization
    7. Foster Parent(s) shall keep detailed, dated medical records and ensure that an up to date copy is also on file with TLC
    8. Foster Parent(s) shall separately house Foster cat/kitten(s) in a temperature controlled environment and separated from other pets in their home
    9. Foster Parent(s) shall be the sole caregiver to the cat/kitten(s) and shall not transfer care to any other person or agent without TLC’s consent
    10. Foster Parent(s) shall ensure the foster cat/kitten(s) will remain at the Address of Foster Parent noted below unless otherwise agreed upon by TLC
    11. Tender Loving Cats, Inc. has the right to send an authorized representative to visit the foster cat/kitten(s) in a Foster Parent(s) care at its discretion with reasonable notice
    12. Tender Loving Cats, Inc. has the right to reclaim any fostered animal, temporarily or permanently, for any reason 
  • Veterinary Care

    1. If a foster cat/kitten(s) needs veterinary care that care will be provided solely by TLC veterinarians, or veterinarians expressly approved by TLC 
    2. Foster Parent(s) shall attend any and all veterinary appointments. When possible appointments will be scheduled according to the Foster Parent(s) availability. Foster Parent(s) must notify TLC Representative immediately if not available to transport to veterinary appointments so that other arrangements can be made
    3. Foster Parent(s) shall bring the cat/kitten(s) for veterinary care upon the request of an authorized TLC Representative 
    4. TLC is not responsible for fees incurred from any veterinary visits that do not have prior authorization given by verbal or written authorization by a TLC Representative including emergency visits
  • Transferring Foster Cats and Kittens to Another Foster Home

    1. Foster Parent(s) shall obtain permission from the Foster Coordinator or TLC’s President before sending any foster cat(s)/kitten(s) to another approved TLC foster home 
    2. If a Foster Parent(s) needs to leave town during the foster period, the Foster Parent(s) shall give a two-week notice to the Foster Coordinator or TLC’s President to arrange for the cat/kitten(s) to be cared for during that time
  • Adoption of Foster Cats and Kittens

    1. If a Foster Parent(s) wants to adopt any of their foster cat(s)/kitten(s), they may do so by going through the standard TLC adoption process 
    2. Expenses for food, litter, treats, scratch posts, etc. will not be applied toward adoption fees should a Foster Parent(s) adopt their foster cat(s)/kitten(s) 
    3. Foster Parent(s) shall not send any of their foster cat(s)/kitten(s) to an adoptive or potential adoptive home until: Pre-adoption or adoption paperwork has been signed and, a confirmation text or phone call has been received confirming the adoption process has been completed. 
    4. Foster Parent(s) shall not adopt out any foster cat/kitten(s) without the consent of TLC
  • Injury or Illness

    1. There is a possibility of health or injury risk when caring for cat(s)/kitten(s) 
    2. Pregnant women and people with suppressed immune systems need to be aware that a parasite sometimes found in feces could cause toxoplasmosis. Special care needs to be taken if such persons plan to come in contact with used litter pans 
    3. TLC is not liable for any injury or illness to the animals or humans in the Foster Parent(s) home which may result from foster activities
  • Questions, Comments, and or Concerns

    1. Foster Parent(s) shall immediately report any problems or concerns with their cat/kitten(s) to TLC’s President and the Foster Coordinator
    2. Foster Parent(s) shall immediately report any issues having to do with medical care, behavioral, or otherwise, regarding the cat/kitten(s) to TLC’s President and Foster Coordinator
    3. Foster Parent(s) shall immediately report any medical emergencies to TLC’s President and the Foster Coordinator. If neither party can be reached in a timely manner during a medical emergency, Foster Parents must call every coordinator listed on the last page of the Foster Care Intro & Guidelines, which I have received, until a representative of TLC can be reached
  • Exceptions and Changes

    1. Only TLC’s Foster Coordinator and President have the authority to make exceptions/changes to program guidelines
    2. Foster Parent(s) that find any cat/kitten(s) may request TLC accept the found cat/kitten(s) into the adoption program, acceptance into the program is contingent on the finder’s agreement to foster the found cat/kitten(s) until they are adopted 
    3. When fostering cat/kitten(s) found by the foster, the obligations and rules may be different than that of a Foster Parent(s) TLC assigns a cat/kitten(s)
    4. TLC is the sole guardian of cat/kitten(s) in foster care and that fostered cat/kitten(s) must be returned to TLC upon TLC’s request 
  • Foster Food

    1. All TLC foster parents are eligible to use stipend money for Royal Canin® Feline Health Nutrition™ wet & dry food HERE = $60 per 2 kittens (TLCKITTENS) up or $30 per adult (TLCADULTCAT). Anything additional may be purchased at cost.
    2. This is an honor system. You'll be responsible to use the foster stipend coupon codes appropriately. We do not recieve this food for free. Please only use the stipend if you need it. You may purchase this food at cost anytime. All food must be picked up in Islip, NY and delivery is not available. Please note: foster food is a tax deductable donation. Read about it HERE.
  • Termination of Foster Care Agreement

    1. TLC has the right to terminate this foster care agreement and relationship at will for any reason
    2. If at any time a foster stops being a Foster Parent(s) for TLC for any reason or upon the request of TLC at any time, the Foster Parent(s) shall promptly return any TLC supplies, equipment, records, cat/kitten(s) and any other items belonging to TLC in good clean condition
    3. If a Foster Parent(s) does not comply with these terms, the Foster Parent(s) shall pay the estimated value of items and/or adoption fees as applicable. 
    4. Value of borrowed items is determined by Tender Loving Cats, Inc
  • Failure to Comply

    1. If at any time a foster parent fails to comply with the agreed to terms listed above, TLC may terminate the foster agreement. See section 'Termination of Foster Care Agreement'
  • *Foster-Finder Addendum*

    1. A Foster-Finder is a Foster Parent(s) that found or rescued the cat/kitten(s) they are fostering and subsequently has requested that Tender Loving Cats, Inc. (TLC) accept them into our adoption program contingent on the cat/kitten(s) being fostered by the finder
    2. Any cats/kittens found by a Foster Parent(s) may be accepted into TLC’s program contingent on the finder’s agreement to foster the found cat/kitten(s) until adopted
    3. When fostering cats/kitten(s) found by the foster, the obligations and rules may be different than that of a Foster Parent(s) TLC assigns a litter of kittens
      If at any point in time a Foster-Finder can no longer uphold their duties as a
    4. Foster Parent(s), the foster shall find a suitable replacement that must be approved by TLC before the cat/kitten(s) transfer hands 
      If a Foster-Finder needs to leave town during the foster period, the Foster-
    5. Finder shall find a suitable replacement for the cat/kitten(s) to be cared for during that time that must be approved by TLC before the cat/kitten(s) transfer hands
