    Acknowledgement: Camps and Historical Oppression
We must acknowledge the inherent oppression that exists in the history of camps. The summer camp experience and camps in general in the US have roots in racism, sexism, homophobia, classism, ableism and colonialism - and have been used as means to segregate, detain, confine, exploit, and otherwise marginalize or harm. In hosting a camp-like event at a summer camp facility, it’s incumbent upon our organization to recognize the historical and lasting impact of oppression on individuals, families and communities that originated from camps. We always aim to ensure that our events align with our professional and organizational values, and do not contribute to any further harm. Please let us know if there is anything we can do to address your concerns.

  • 5. COVID-19 Policies

Please read all information below carefully and in full. Check the acknowledgement boxes, and upload your COVID-19 vaccination document(s).
  • COVID-19 Health & Safety Protocols:

NASW-MN’s number one priority is the health and safety of all Camp NASW-MN participants. Our goal is to hold a safe event, recognizing it is not possible to remove all risks, in particular concerning COVID-19. We will ensure every effort is taken to provide a safe environment for attendees.

The policies outlined below, which apply to all attendees (including NASW-MN staff, board and interns), are consistent with recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

NASW-MN will continually monitor applicable state and local requirements and public health recommendations and update the policies below as appropriate to best protect the health and safety of attendees. Please check the event webpage periodically for updates.

Specifically, NASW-MN will require all attendees to:

    • Provide proof of full vaccination against COVID-19
    • Consent to a waiver of liability

Mask wearing is not required unless community levels of COVID-19 significantly increase (see below for details).

    Proof of Vaccination Requirement

Proof of full vaccination will be required. Proof of full COVID-19 vaccination means documentation that the individual is at least two weeks past the full primary two-injection course of the Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna vaccines or a single shot of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

Consistent with CDC guidance, NASW-MN strongly encourages attendees to be up to date on their vaccinations. Currently, the CDC recommends that individuals receive all doses in the primary vaccination series and all boosters recommended for them, when eligible.

We will not be offering access to the event with proof of a negative COVID-19 test result for persons who are not fully vaccinated, unless you have a medical reason. If you are unable to satisfy the vaccination requirement because of a medical condition, you must submit a note from a licensed health care provider addressing the issue. The note must identify the medical condition and indicate why it would make COVID-19 vaccination unsafe, identify the provider and address, and be signed and dated by the provider. It should be emailed to admin.naswmn@socialworkers.org. Please provide the information before registering for the event.

    Mask Requirement

Under CDC guidance, persons in areas with designated “high” COVID-19 community levels are encouraged to wear a mask indoors in public, regardless of vaccination status. In areas with designated “medium” or “low” community levels, the CDC leaves the decision of whether to wear a mask up to each person individually (regardless of vaccination status), based on personal preference and personal level of risk. Currently, the community level where the Retreat venue is located (Hubbard County) is low. If at the time of the event, the level is not “high,” attendees will not be required to wear a mask indoors. If the level rises to ”high,” attendees will be required to wear a mask indoors, except when actively consuming food or beverage.

If a mask requirement is in effect during the event, attendees will be required to wear a surgical mask with at least three layers of fabric, or a KN95, KF94, or N95 mask. This is consistent with CDC guidance on face coverings. Wearing only a cloth mask or gaiter will not be acceptable; however, individuals may choose to wear cloth masks or gaiters over a surgical mask or a KN95, KF94, or N95 mask.

    Other Precautions

Attendees will be expected to take reasonable precautions to reduce the risk of COVID transmission and to behave responsibly. We ask all attendees to be vigilant in monitoring their health. If you are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, please do not attend the event. If you test positive for COVID or have been in close contact with someone who has COVID, please follow the relevant CDC guidance before attending the Retreat.

You will also be required to sign Northern Pines Retreat's liability/COVID-19 form upon check-in at the event.

  • COVID-19 Vaccination Status:

NASW-MN requires that all Camp NASW-MN attendees be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 at least 2 weeks before the start of the event. This means that you have received all doses in a primary series of COVID-19 vaccines. We also highly recommend receiving at least 1 booster shot, and a second booster, if you are eligible.

You can upload your proof of vaccination or medical exemption documentation now (in document upload box below).

Otherwise, you may skip this section and NASW-MN will follow-up with you in a few weeks to request this documentation.

You will not be permitted to attend the event without this documentation having been received by NASW-MN at least 2 weeks before the start of the event.

  • Mask Policy:

NASW-MN will monitor local COVID-19 community rates (Hubbard County, MN) and make a determination about whether masks will be required or optional at Camp NASW-MN no less than 2 weeks before the start of the event. Masks will not be required if community levels are "low". Masks will be required if community levels are "moderate" or "high"; in this case, all Camp NASW-MN attendees will be required to wear face masks throughout the event - no exceptions. Registrants will be notified by email.
