  • Middle School Courses 

    Monday through Thursday from 3:00 PM - 6:30 PM

     Students in our Summer Camp will experience hands-on learning in STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math) education. CHICAT families can choose any of the following classes to enroll their middle school student! CHICAT is now offering more classes! 

     

    (Session 1: September 5th - October 20th) 

     

    Mondays and Wednesdays 3:00pm -6:30pm

    Design Lab: Pop Art 

    In this course, students will use a sketchbook to develop various new skills and techniques in drawing. Using color theory references, negative space, and detailed mark-making skills, students will understand the Origins of Pop Art and use its history to illustration themes, using new materials such as Copic Markers. 

     

    Digital Lab: AI Graphics for Beginners 

    This first session is focused on teaching student’s digital graphics utilizing Artificial Intelligence tools. 

     

    3D Maker Lab: Animation Station

    Use 3D software to design, texture, rig, and animate characters.
    Students in this class will begin with introductory modeling and rigging before
    moving on to more intricate projects.

     

    Tuesdays and Thursdays 3:00pm -6:30pm 

    Stop Motion

    Stop Motion is an excellent tool that can enhance the learning experience in any classroom! Students will use a powerful and user-friendly app for their projects! Stop Motion allows students to bring their creative ideas to life, while providing endless opportunities for project-based learning and collaboration.

     

    Fashion Forward

    Students will create a fashion portfolio project showcasing the design process including concept building, color palettes, fabric sourcing, print design, sketching, illustration, technical flats, and presentation.

    Design Lab: Pop Art - Part 2 

    As an extension of the first session, students will focus on developing Pop Art series and use its history to illustration themes, using new materials such as Copic Markers. 

     

    Digital Lab: AI Graphics - Next Level 

    This second session is focused students developing graphic design projects with artificial intelligence. 

     

    3D Maker Lab: Carving Collage

    Create digital drawings and turn them into physical projects using
    CNC machines in the maker lab!

     

    Tuesdays and Thursdays 3:00pm -6:30pm 

    Paint a Story! 

    Illustration, which is the process of painting or drawing the description of a story, is the main focus of this painting class. Students will learn how to create a story and how to illustrate their story on a large canvas. Their stories can range from any genre they wish, such as horror, fantasy, non-fiction, mystery, etc.

     

    DIY Pet Pillows

    Enhance your creative skills and learn how to sew your very own pet pillow! Students will choose and sew a stuffed creature using hand-sewing and machine-sewing techniques. Prior sewing experience is not required.

    I consent to interviews, photographs, and audio and video recordings of myself (collectively, “Personal Images” I grant the Chicago Center for Arts Technology (CHICAT) and the Department of Family and Support Services (DFSS) irrevocable right to use, reproduce (whether through digital copying, photography, audio, and video recordings, or any other means), release, publish, transmit, distribute, exhibit, and/or display in any and all forms of media (whether existing or future, and whether in whole or in part) and in any and all manners, including (1) any or all of my artwork that is created at or through CHICAT and DFSS, (2) any or all of the Personal Images, and (3) my name and likeness. The preceding consents are given for and limited to CHICAT and DFSS’s activities as a non-profit institution. Such activities may include, without limitation, news articles, telecasts, webcasts, press releases, education, fundraising, marketing, advertising, and research. Such activities may be performed by CHICAT or CHICAT’s employees, agents, affiliates, partners, assignees, licensees, or designees.

    I waive all rights to inspect or approve any uses that may be created under the preceding paragraph, or the use to which any of the materials may be applied. I waive the right to compensation by, through, or under CHICAT for any uses that may be created under the preceding paragraph. I agree that Personal Images and all other originals thereof shall constitute CHICAT’s sole property, with the full right of disposition in any manner whatsoever.

    I release, discharge, and agree to hold harmless CHICAT, its agents, affiliates, partners, assignees, licensees, and designees, and all persons acting under its/their authority from any and all claims whatsoever in connection with the use of the materials as described in the first paragraph above. I certify that I either (a) am 18-years old and legally competent to execute this Consent and Release or (b) am under 18-years old and have the consent of my parent or guardian to execute this Consent and Release. I understand that the terms herein are contractual and not a mere recital, that this instrument is legally binding, that I have voluntarily signed this document, and that CHICAT is relying on this Consent and Release to perform the activities described in the first paragraph above. I have read this Consent and Release and am fully familiar with its contents.
