College Steps Support Specialist Position
The Support Specialist works closely with the Program Coordinator to implement campus-based support for College Steps students and provide guidance and leadership to the Peer Mentor team.
Support Specialists may also be asked to complete daily administrative tasks, oversee the program's day-to-day operations, and assist in developing session curriculum materials.
Note: This is an in-person position for the Fall 2024-Spring 2025 Academic Year, based at Connecticut State Community College - Norwalk in Norwalk, CT.
Position requirements:
- The Support Specialist position runs through the Fall '24-Spring '25 Academic Year (August 2024 - May 2025) with a break over the holidays (late December-early January). The position is not staffed during the summer months (mid-May through mid-August).
- The position is part-time (20 hours/week), with availability needed during College Steps' peak programming hours of Monday-Friday, 9:00 am-3:00 pm. There can be flexibility with scheduling your 20 hours within these times, but we typically look for 3-5 hours of availability per day, Monday through Thursday especially.
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills

Support Specialist roles and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Develop and implement group sessions with students on campus
- Supervise student and mentor in-person sessions
- Support implementation of day-to-day in-person operations
- Provide direct support to students in the areas of academic enrichment, social integration, independent living, and pre-employment skills
- Assist students with the organization of assignments and scheduled tasks/events
- Support Program Coordinator with daily administrative tasks
- Relay communication about student progress to Program Coordinator
- Attend individual supervision with Program Coordinator
- Complete any other related tasks that the Program Coordinator may delegate
