Welcome! If you are a Sikh college student in California, sign up to become a 2023-2024 member of the Jakara Movement Chapter.

The mission of the Jakara Movement Chapter (JMC) is to build a Sikh political campus voice through strengthening the power of Sikh and disenfranchised communities via civic engagement, strategic grassroots mobilization, and awakening based on vichaar (reflection), karam (action), seva, sangat, simran, shaheedi, and santokh. We are inclusive of all and committed to travel this path together in nimrata (humility) and daya (compassion).

I will strive to embody compassion/kindness (daya), integrity (sat), humility (nimrata), contentment (santokh), generosity (parupkar) and a Gurmat inspired understanding of humanity in my words and actions in order to create an environment that nurtures individuality and respect.  I forsake the privilege to put any self-interested (ahankar) and personally driven thoughts, opinions, and attitudes (haumai) above Gurmat and the Jakara Movement’s commitment to a safe, nonjudgmental, inclusive, and compassionate environment.  I will strive to practice good judgment in regards to sharing my ideas or taking a step back in conversations as I know that it is just as important for leaders to actively listen to understand rather than to always speak; I will strive to give space for dialogue to others over myself when doing so will facilitate the progress of the conversation and/or growth of my peers.  I will strive to act in accordance with Gurmat values, inside and outside of school and events, as I understand I uphold the values of the organization in everything I do.
