Screen Printing in Colour

Come learn the basics of screen printing with a focus on colour! Screen printing is a fast and fun form of printmaking that lends itself to employing lots of colour, so this workshop will focus on how translucent layers can build an image. Printing on paper, this course is suited for those new to screen printing, or people who have some knowledge of screen printing but would like to learn new ways to create and use layers.
The instructor will cover:
- How to clean and coat silk screens with photo emulsion
- How to prepare drawings for photo positives
- How to expose stencils onto a silk screen
- How to mix silk screen ink
- Colour theory
- How to use various layer registration systems
- How to print onto paper
- How to employ translucent colour for optical colour mixing on the paper

Instructor Bio
Morgan Melenka is a visual artist based in Mohkinstsis (Calgary). She misuses architectural forms and materials to engage with history and place. She holds an MFA from NSCAD University (2019) and a BFA from University of Alberta (2014). This year her work was featured at the Esker Foundation’s Project Space from February 13 - June 11 and at The Mall at the Mitchell Art Gallery, MacEwan University until April. She teaches print sessionally at AU Arts.
