  • Are you interested in becoming a filmmaker? Do you have a unique perspective or story to tell? Do you want to know what it takes to be in the media industry?

The Bridges Fellowship is designed to help a diverse cohort of transitional-age youth (18-24 years old) learn strategies to successfully prepare for, challenge, and ultimately surmount the barriers to entering and staying in the media industry. Bridges Fellows will receive an immersive 8 month training in video pre-production, production, and post-production and will be exposed to a range of guest artists, community/industry partners, and career readiness training all while working towards a culminating final film that will be screened at a final showcase.

Fellows who complete all requirements of the program will receive a $500 incentive following each semester (Part I + Part II).

    Part I - Personal Storytelling

    October 10 - December 15
    Tuesdays, Wednesdays, & Thursdays, 4-7pm

In the first semester, Fellows will study the foundational elements of filmmaking using a 3-stage production cycle. Fellows will gain hands on experience in all aspects of script writing, production, and video editing, and will complete an independent, personal film by the end of the semester.

    Part II: Team Capstones

    January 30 - May 9
Tuesday and Wednesday OR Thursday, 4-7pm

In the second semester, Fellows will dive deeper into intermediate filmmaking techniques and will collaborate with other Fellows to produce a team project by the end of the semester. During the second semester, Fellows only attend in-person sessions twice per week, as they are expected to spend additional time filming projects outside of class time. Culminating projects will screen at a final symposium event. Second semester includes additional career readiness support and work-based learning opportunities.

All classes are held in person at The Ninth Street Independent Film Center:
    145 9th Street, San Francisco.
