Explore using a safer alternative to traditional solvent-based etching grounds. B.I.G. is a versatile etching ground developed by Andrew Baldwin of Trefeglwys Printmaking Studio (UK). B.I.G. has all qualities etchers know and love about hard / soft ground —minus the VOC’s, plus it’s super-easy to use! Students having prior experience with etching is recommended.

    The instructor will cover:

    • Exploring products and practices for a green printmaking studio
    • Using B.I.G. as a hard ground and soft ground
    • Using Coffee Lift as a Sugar Lift alternative
    • Using Aquatint technique
    • Operating our Studio presses
    • Pulling prints made from the B.I.G. etchings
