Yawgoo Valley On-Snow Instructor Training Course
The Instructor Training Course (ITC) provides on-snow ski or snowboard instruction on Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. for three weeks in January.
Participants will develop the skills and confidence needed to effectively teach beginner ski or snowboard lessons while improving their own skiing or riding abilities. Our certified instructors work with participants in small groups to enhance technical skills and share effective teaching and communication techniques. Each participant receives individualized feedback and learns how to teach the fundamentals.
Following the three-week training, participants will work one-on-one with students in our five-week lesson program under the supervision of experienced instructors.
The ITC covers the fundamentals of teaching beginner lessons, including:
- Creating a safe learning environment
- Understanding and communicating effectively with students
- Teaching skill-building progressions that promote success and enjoyment in the sport
The $125 course fee includes:
- A Yawgoo Valley SnowSports Manual
- Approximately 20 hours of combined on-snow training and classroom instruction
The classroom portion of the course will be completed the following fall. All instruction is based on The Professional Ski Instructors of America and American Association of Snowboard Instructors (PSIA-AASI) American Teaching System.
After completing the three weeks of on-snow training, candidates will be asked to shadow two or more lessons, as assigned by the Snow Sports Director or Supervisor.
Please come prepared with your own ski or snowboard equipment. Skiers must also bring ski poles.
