Winter Break 2024: December 1-4, 2024 at Memorial Hospital in Carthage, IL
- 3 full days of shadowing in various specialties at an award-winning hospital.
- Program begins on December 2, but arrival in the early evening on Sunday, December 1 is required - it's an early start on Monday December 2. Depart for home after 4:00pm on Wednesday December 4.
- 4 student spots available
- Lodging: Students will stay in Macomb, IL at a hotel (expense covered).
- Housing on-campus before and after the program is NOT covered. Talk with Campus Life to determine your on-campus housing plans.
- Transportation:
- Students may drive their own car. If you want to do this, it is preferred that you allow other students to ride in your car with you (carpool style). Your gas expenses will be covered. If needed, a rental van will be reserved (and paid for by Knox); students will meet at Knox to travel together.
- Your travel from home to Knox (before the program) and from Knox to home (after the program) is not covered. For example, if you live in Denver and you want to go home for Thanksgiving and then return to Galesburg to catch a ride, your trip to/from Galesburg is not covered.
- If driving in the car of another Knox student or in a rental car, your travel between Galesburg and Macomb/Carthage is covered, as are the daily commutes between Macomb and Carthage.

Reading Day, Winter Term 2025: March 12, 2025 at Seminary Village in Galesburg, IL
DEADLINE TO APPLY: February 2, 2025
- One full day of shadowing at the Seminary Village retirement community. Students will rotate among various healthcare professionals: nurse practitioner, nurse, occupational therapist, physical therapist, and speech therapist.
- Lunch is provided
- 6 student spots
- Students may drive their own car. If you want to drive, it is preferred that you allow other students to ride in your car with you (ie carpool). Your gas expenses will be covered. If needed, a rental car will be reserved (and paid for by Knox); students will meet at Knox to travel together.
Spring Break 2025 Option #1: March 16-19, 2025 at Graham Health System in Canton, IL
DEADLINE TO APPLY: February 2, 2025
- 3 days of shadowing at the hospital and the clinic, as well as meetings with hospital administrators, staff, and healthcare professionals
- 6 student spots
- Lodging: You will be asked to arrive in Canton on Sunday March 16 because the program starts early on Monday, March 17. The hotel in Canton, IL is covered. Sharing a room with a student of the same gender will be required, although some accommodations/flexibility may be possible.
- Housing on-campus before and after the program is NOT covered. Talk with Campus Life to determine your on-campus housing plans.
- Transportation:
- Students may drive their own car. If you want to do this, it is preferred that you allow other students to ride in your car with you (carpool style). Your gas expenses will be covered. If needed, a rental car will be reserved (and paid for by Knox); students will meet at Knox to travel together.
- Your travel from home to Knox (before the program) and from Knox to home (after the program) is not covered. Spring Break 2025 Option #2: March 19-21, 2025 at Knox & Warren County Health Departments

Early Summer 2025: June 8-20, 2025 at the JUMP Medical Immersion program in Peoria, IL
DEADLINE TO APPLY: March 28, 2025
- 2 full weeks of what is considered to be a "medical school bootcamp" at the JUMP Simulation Center, in conjunction with the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria. This program is intended to give students an idea of what medical school student looks and feels like in terms of training, interaction with patients (both simulated and actors), and shadowing.
- 6 student spots
- All expenses covered, plus a stipend is given to each student. Transportation will either be a group rental van, student-driven carpools, or a van driven by the JUMP Center.
- Housing on-campus before and after the program is NOT covered. Talk with Campus Life to determine your on-campus housing plans.
- Hear stories about student's experiences at JUMP in 2023 and also in 2022
- Due to the intensive nature of this program, a separate application is also required (in addition to this one) and is due in March 28, 2025
