Lesley University Room, Meal Plan, and Health Services Contract 2023-2024
  • Lesley University Room, Meal Plan, and Health Services Contract 2023-2024

    Undergraduate Housing Contract 2023-2024
  • Terms of Occupancy

The student has only a license to occupy the assigned rooms and to use the designated common facilities of Lesley University and no proprietary interest or estate in the land or any improvements thereto. Lesley University shall provide the following utilities: water, heat, hot water, gas and/or electricity, as applicable. The University is not responsible for any inconvenience, loss or damage caused by irregularity in the supply of water, heat or electrical current, but does take reasonable measures to prevent such situations from arising. Lesley University will not be responsible for failure to provide utilities for reason of any cause beyond its control, including an Event Beyond the University’s Control (defined below). Whenever reasonably possible, notification will be given to students of any programmed stoppage of utilities. The University reserves the right to terminate this contract for any breach of this agreement by the student or for violation of the University’s rules, policies and regulations, or for an Event Beyond the University’s Control. Expectations for community living are described in the General Philosophy of Residence Life and additional policies are located in the Student Handbook. University policies, rules, and regulations, including the Student Handbook, and including rules relating to health and safety protocols, may be revised at any time and without prior notice.

  • Room Assignments:

Lesley University reserves the right to adjust room and building assignments as it deems necessary for the benefit of the student or the University at any time. Room assignments are made for new students based on the date that the Residence Hall Application deposit is received by Lesley University and based on availability and University need. Assignments for returning students are made according to the procedures outlined in the spring room selection process. Assignments are made, when reasonably possible, in accordance with the students’ requests on a space-available basis; however, specific assignments cannot be guaranteed. Lesley University reserves the right to consolidate vacant spaces by requiring students to move from single occupancy of a double room to double occupancy of a double room.  Student housing is not available to persons who are not Lesley students. Lesley University is not able to provide housing for families or children.

  • Liability:

The student is responsible for the loss of, theft of, or damage to University property and/ or personal property caused by the student and/ or the student’s guests. The University assumes no liability for loss of, or damage to the student’s personal property. Each student is encouraged to take steps to safeguard and insure personal property, including obtaining appropriate personal property insurance.

  • Room Condition:

A Lesley University designee will inspect the assigned premises prior to occupancy and give the student a written statement of the condition of the room or suite and furnishings. The student agrees to maintain the assigned room/suite and public areas of the residence halls in good condition, to make no alterations or repairs, and to surrender the premises at the termination of this license in as good condition as when taken. The University reserves the right to inspect all rooms, in the presence of the student if reasonably possible and appropriate, for purposes of inventory, fire protection, sanitation, safety of student or others, maintenance, and rule enforcement.

  • Term of Contract:

This contract will not be in effect for longer than the one academic year for which it is intended (or any remaining portion of the applicable academic year). Students may expect to move into their assigned rooms on the dates designated by Lesley University at the beginning of each opening period (i.e. before the Fall and Spring Semesters). Before the beginning of any semester, Lesley University must be notified in writing of extenuating circumstances delaying a student’s return to campus. The failure to timely notify the University of such extenuating circumstances is one reason for the University to reassign a student’s housing assignment. Students are required to leave their residence hall within 24 hours of their last class or examination of the Spring Semester (or Fall Semester, as applicable). Graduating seniors are required to leave their residence hall no later than the day after Commencement. If a student’s status becomes less than full time, the University, at its sole option, may terminate this contract. This contract is automatically canceled if the student is dismissed or suspended by the University. This contract also terminates automatically or may be terminated upon the events set forth herein. Students remain responsible for the payment of all room fees, student health services fees, health insurance premiums, and meal plan fees, even if this contract is terminated for any reason except as specifically stated in the University’s refund policy, found at Refund Policy.

  • Student Break Periods:

The residence halls and the dining facilities will be closed during the Thanksgiving, December/January, and March student break periods, even for students residing on campus for the entire academic year. Designated residence halls may be kept open for student occupancy during the student break periods, except for the days during the December/January break period when the University is closed. Dining facilities will remain closed. Students may apply to remain on campus in a residence hall during the designated break period for an additional fee. In this instance, the University reserves the right to temporarily assign students from closed residence halls to rooms in open residence halls without compensation to the students normally assigned to those rooms. Decisions will be made by the Director of Residence Life and the Dean of Students. In the event of an Event Beyond the University’s Control, the University reserves the right to temporarily close its residence halls and dining facilities without making adjustments to the fees. The University will give as much advance notice as reasonably possible to students in the applicable residence hall and will inform students of arrangements put in place for temporary safe storage of each student’s property. Please note that during all break periods, the University dining halls are closed.

  • Animals:

Animals, including pets, are not permitted in University residence halls at any time with the exception of approved service animals or assistance animals.  Students with disabilities who require the use of service animals or assistance animals as a reasonable accommodation may be permitted to bring such animals into residence halls provided they comply with the Lesley University Policy on Pets, Service Animals, and Assistance Animals for Students Living in University Student Housing and follow the process outlined in the policy before bringing an animal into the residence halls. For more information, contact the Executive Director of Disability Support Services at dnewman@lesley.edu.

  • Fees

  • Deposits:

New undergraduate students have already submitted Enrollment Deposit Contracts and a room deposit of $300* along with the Housing Deposit form after being accepted as a full-time student. All returning full-time students who participate in the housing assignment process are required to submit the Housing Deposit form along with a room deposit* for Fall Semester room reservation. The deposit must be received by the determined designated date of the semester. Students who have not paid their deposit by the deadline will not qualify to be considered to participate in the housing assignment process. While not obligated to do so, current University policy is to return the room deposit to the resident at the end of the academic year, after any damage charges have been deducted. *Amount subject to change.

  • Damages:

The student agrees to pay for all damages attributable to the student, whether the damages occurred in the student’s room or in the public and common areas (e.g. lounges, hallways, stairwells, etc.). The student also agrees to pay an amount equally shared by the other residents for damages that occur in public and/or common areas that are not attributable to a specific individual or group.

  • Room Rates: The room rates are set forth on the tuition and fees webpage.

  • Meal Plan:

All resident students are required to subscribe to a weekly campus meal plan during the academic year. Dining hall hours are posted, and openings and closings may be subject to change without prior notice. The meal plan is for the student’s use only.  More information about dining options and rates is available on the Dining Service webpage and on the tuition and fees webpage.

  • Student Health Service Fee

A mandatory Student Health Service fee is charged to all resident students. This fee covers access to Lesley’s Student Health Service, regardless of, and separate from, the health insurance plan a student selects. Rates and fees are available at Health Service Fee. More information about the Lesley University Student Health Service can be found at Student Health Service.

  • Health Insurance Requirements

Massachusetts requires that all full-time students and part-time students (as defined by law) be covered by a qualifying health insurance plan, which may include (but is not limited to) coverage for both inpatient and outpatient medical and mental health services, routine, urgent, and emergency care delivered in both inpatient and outpatient settings; laboratory, x-ray, and other diagnostic services; and prescription drugs. Information about this requirement, a health insurance plan available through Lesley, and other options is available here on the Lesley website.

Students with comparable insurance may be eligible to waive  the Lesley-sponsored plan by completing the waiver available through the Lesley website.

Qualifying students who do not submit this waiver by the posted deadline will be enrolled in and charged for the Lesley-sponsored plan. Additional information about health insurance policies and procedures, including a list  of frequently asked questions, can be found here.

  • Health Document Requirements

Tuberculosis (TB) Risk Assessment Questionnaire completed annually and appropriate follow-up if indicated.

Health Service Disclosure Forms: At times, students may wish to share records from other health care providers with Student Health Service, or students may receive services outside of Lesley’s Student Health Service.  To support students, Student Health Service would like to coordinate with outside service providers and receive or provide health information if requested.  Please see Student Health Service for more information and release of medical information forms.

  • Immunization Requirments

Massachusetts law requires students 30 years old and younger to provide documentation of the immunizations listed below prior to enrollment and registration in any postsecondary institution. This includes students on student visas or other visas and students attending or visiting classes or programs as part of an academic visitation or exchange program. Students can upload their immunization records and complete other health documents by logging into the Lesley medical portal at Lesley.medicatconnect.com.

Tdap: 1 dose AND a history of a DTaP primary series or age appropriate catch-up vaccination. Tdap given at ≥7 years may be counted, but a dose at age 11-12 is recommended if Tdap was given earlier as part of a catch-up schedule. Td should be given if it has been ≥10 years since the last Tdap.

Hepatitis B: 3 doses OR laboratory evidence of immunity.

MMR: The first dose must be given on or after the 1st birthday and the 2nd dose must be given ≥28 days after dose 1. Laboratory evidence of immunity is also acceptable.

Varicella: 2 doses. The first dose must be given on or after the 1st birthday and the 2nd dose must be given ≥28 days after the first dose. Laboratory evidence of immunity is acceptable.

Meningococcal: 1 dose of MenACWY (formerly MCV4) is required for all students 21 years of age or younger living in residence halls. The dose of MenACWY vaccine must have been received on or after the student’s 16th birthday. Doses received at younger ages do not count towards this requirement. Students may decline MenACWY vaccine after they have read and signed the MDPH Meningococcal Information and Waiver Form. Meningococcal B vaccine is not required and does not meet this requirement.

Influenza and COVID  Immunizations: The University strongly encourages all students to receive an annual influenza vaccine and to be up to date on COVID vaccines and boosters according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommendations.

Lesley University reserves the right to prevent students who have not submitted proof of immunization from registering for classes and living in the residence halls. In the event of a campus outbreak of a vaccine preventable disease, students who have not submitted proof of immunization will be required to live off campus until it is deemed safe for their return, and they may be restricted from participating in other aspects of academic life and student activities.
