• Hometown Hero Banner Guidelines & Application

    Purpose:

    To honor and recognize Christian County servicemen and women and their families who have served or given their lives to our country in the United States Armed Forces. 

    Application Requirements:

    In order to be considered for a banner, the nominee must meet the following requirements:

    Lived in Christian County at some point in their lifetime.

    Served in one of the following branches: Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, Space Force, National Guard, Reserves or Coast Guard.

    Meet one of the following criteria: (a) Be an honorably discharged Veteran (living or deceased) or (b) Died in the line of duty or (c) Currently active duty. 

    Banner Design, Time Frame & Location:

    Banners are 24"x 48", double sided material and include service person's name, branch of service, and photograph.

    Banners will be displayed on light poles throughout Christian County and Hopkinsville from May (Memorial Day Holiday) through November (Veteran’s Day Holiday)

    Placement locations will be throughout Hopkinsville and Chrisitan County. Specific display locations cannot be requested. Locations of flags will be rotated each year for at least 2 years.

    Banners will be stored at the City Street Department during the off season.

    Banners for living individuals MUST have signed permission from the individual for their image to be used.

    Extra banners may be purchased at the time of application only. Families may request that the banner be given to the family at any time. When current banners are retired, they may be picked up at City Hall.

    Last date to order banners is August 1, 2026. (any orders placed after the cut-off date will still be ordered, but will not be hung until the following year.)

    Banner Information and Photograph:

    Please upload the photograph you would like to use on the banner and submit it with your application and payment.  The photograph should be a headshot of the Veteran in their service uniform.

    We do not have the capability to enhance your photograph. What is submitted will be used.

    Photographs submitted in a high resolution .jpg format are preferred. 

    Application Deadline:

    Applications can be found on the City of Hopkinsville website or may be picked up at City Hall, Monday — Friday 8:00 AM — 4:30PM.

    Applications and payment must be submitted by close of business, September 1, 2026.
    NOTE: Any applications submitted after this date will be placed on the 2027 order list.

  • Living Veteran must grant permission to be honored on a banner. Veteran MUST sign and date below. I hereby grant permission for the City of Hopkinsville to use the photo submitted for the Hometown Hero Banner Program.

      Fee of $150 - which can be paid by credit card(online), cash, check, or money order to City of Hopkinsville.
      Applications must be submitted no later than September 1, 2026.
      NOTE: Any applications submitted after this date will be placed on the 2027 order list.

      APPLICATIONS WILL BE APPROVED ON A FIRST-COME, FIRST-SERVED BASIS

      Paper applications can be picked up at City Hall, checks and money orders are to be made out to City of Hopkinsville, and in person orders need to be returned to Nikki Steger.
