  • SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA

    Ocean View Resident Family

    • Must be a resident of the Ocean View Community or Surrounding Area
    • Must have a family need, multiple learners
    • Must demonstrate financial need and personal narrative(essay)
    • Must utilize the scholarship in the Season it was awarded

    Ocean View Resident Single Learner

    • Must be a resident of the Ocean View Community or Surrounding Area
    • Must be for a single learner
    • Must demonstrate financial need and personal narrative (essay)
    • Must attend public school
    • Must utilize the scholarship in the Season it was awarded 

    The Folk Scholarship (Norfolk and Surrounding Communities)

    • Must be a resident of Nofolk, and it's surrounding communities within a 35 mile radius
    • Maybe a family or single learner
    • Must demonstrate financial need and personal narrative (essay)
    • Must utilize the scholarship in the Season it was awarded

     

  • SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA

    From Sea to Shining Sea (Global Service Scholarship)

    • Must be an active or inactive military member (all branches) Letter or DD214 copy must accompany application
    • OR--Must be the dependent of a military member active or inactive (all branches)
    • May be for a family or single learner
    • Must demonstrate financial need and personal narrative (essay)
    • Must utlize the scholarship in a year from award date (all courses will be for online education only unless in the Norfolk, VA area)

    Under One Tent - Women's Studies Scholarship

    • Must be part of a Red Tent either locally or internationally, must show participation in one of these groups. (Public or Private Group)
    • Must have a letter of recommendation from a group leader
    • Maybe for a single woman or a family of women, in case of generational enrollment, mother/daughter/grandmother etc., 
    • If applying for a minor, parents must be part of a Red Tent group
    • Must demonstrate the above requirements (and essays)
    • Must be used for women's studies courses or events such as retreats or monthly meetings good for one calendar year after approval

    One World Scholarship

    • Must be a global learner not to be used with other scholarships
    • Maybe a family or single learner
    • Must demonstrate financial need and personal narrative (essay)
    • Must utilize the scholarship in the Season it was awarded

     

  • ESSAY REQUIREMENT
    The essay must be typed and double-spaced (if uploaded via the online form) or typed in the space provided.
    Please choose one of the following:

    1. State three goals you would wish to experience in the next 5-10 years. What support system will you incorporate into your plan that will help you achieve your goals?
    2. Personal Statement - "Your personal statement should be exactly that, personal. This is your opportunity to tell us about yourself your hopes, ambitions, life experiences, inspirations."
    3. We encourage you to take your time on this assignment. Be open. Be reflective. Find your individual voice and express it honestly.
    4. Let us know how this scholarship will help you better be able to have a journey based experience or lighten the financial load.  (naradahaus.org)

    LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION
    A Letter of recommendation should accompany your application. If you are applying for a Women's Studies, please get a letter of recommendation from your local Red Tent or Women's group leader. Why is this important? Women's studies are designed to create a space of safety, confidentiality, support and advocacy. Also if you are applying for the Military Scholarship, do not forget to attach a DD 214 or proof of mlitary service, letter from educational service liason. 

    DEADLINE
    The application must be submitted via the online form by September 15th Friday at 11:59 PM EST. The essay, letters of recommendation  (and paper application if you are filling this out offline) must be postmarked by Wednesday September 13th and mailed to the below address. Late/incomplete applications will not be accepted.

    5. Letter of Recommendation should come from a civic leader, or community leader in your organization, branch of service or community. Recommendations must provide contact information, name, address, phone number and must be reachable.
