CALL FOR PROPOSALS
Due by September 30, 2023
We invite you to submit a session proposal for Voice4Equity's When Women Lead 2024 summit happening in Vancouver, Washington on June 20-22, 2024. When Women Lead provides a one-of-a-kind space for women who are leaders in public education to build greater policy expertise and voice while engaging in a national network of women leaders.
This year's theme is "Leading with Intention." This is both about being intentional in our equity policy approach as leaders, and being intentional about preparing women to lead as powerful, impactful chief executives.
Concurrent session proposals require a co-presenter. Priority will be given to sessions that include a superintendent or deputy superintendent as one of the presenters. AMA and Author's Sandbox sessions do not require a co-presenter.
Presenters will be notified regarding acceptance of proposals by September 30, 2023 and must commit to attend all or the majority of the summit and participate in networking.
All Sessions are 45 minutes in length of which 20 minutes is best practice sharing and 25 minutes is based on an engagement activity (with exception of the Author's Sandbox and AMA).
Session Option 1: Equity Policy Bootcamp
Description: Share an example of an equity-based policy challenge you have faced and the approach you used to gain community support and to shift mindset towards more equitable practices. Speak to at least two of these six culturally responsive components from the Culturally Responsive Policy Ecosystem: Power, Culture, Justice, Perspective, Systems, Stories. Engage the audience to brainstorm provacative policy position statements that address the real-world policy challenge that you share.
Session Option 2: Replacing Legacy Strongholds
Description: Systemic change is hard but necessary when legacy systems impede progress towards meeting student needs. Share a legacy approach (traditional, long-standing way of doing something) that you have successfully replaced through new and innovative practices that have changed outcomes for students. Challenge the audience to take on their system's legacy strongholds.
Session Option 3: Technology Innovations that Deliver
Description: Share a best instructional practice or school-wide engagement approach that leverages technology for improved learning, inclusivity and engagement. This session can be co-presented with a Summit sponsor as long as the presentation is focused on pedagogy, equity and inclusivity, and student learning outcomes, and not on a product. The presentation of partnership approaches is encouraged. Please be clear about the hands-on activity that will be a part of the presentation time.
Session Option 4: Ask Me Anything! (AMA)
Description: We are seeking Superintendents with a diverse range of experiences to lead an “ask me anything” (AMA) session. Be prepared to facilitate a dialog around questions from the audience regarding your personal experience and career path. Attendees will want to know about your personal story and how you have navigated the political, financial, emotional and psychological stressors leading in the chief executive role.
Session Option 5: Author's Sandbox
Description: We are seeking presenters who have published their first book within the last three years to share their writing journey and to introduce their book. Participants will cycle through the "sandbox" every fifteen minutes meeting three different authors. While we are not able to host a bookroom to sell books, your book will be featured on our summit webpage along with information about how to order it. We ask for one donation of your book that can be raffled off in our Swag Swap.
