8 x State and Territory based MEAA House Committees
Although many teams are nationally organised, union meetings, actions and events usually occur face to face, so organising at a local level is important.
All delegates in local committees will be endorsed locally by MEAA members in their teams and offices. Each State/Territory is different and has different needs, so the committees will be organised based on local needs. In big offices, there should be representatives from each team, in smaller offices the committees may be made up of only a handful of people.
Each Committee will have a number of Chairs that will also sit on the National House Committee.
National Regional MEAA Committee
To make sure that distance doesn't disadvantage regionally based members, make sure regional issues are heard and delegates are supported, a dedicated committee is important.
The committee would be made up of at least one locally endorsed MEAA delegate from each regional bureau across Australia. If they have time and capacity, they will also be on their State/Territory based House Committee to build connection between regional and metro newsrooms.
The Committee would have 2 Chairs who sit on the National House Committee.
National Diversity Access and Inclusion MEAA Committee
Equality is a core union issue, and we need to make sure diverse colleagues at the ABC are given a safe space to organise, be heard and supported.
The committee would be made up of at least 2 members with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander heritage, at least 2 members who are POC, and at least 2 members who are people living with disability, across all ABC offices.
If they have time and capacity, they will also be on their State/Territory based House Committee to make sure that DA&I issues remain core union business, and that we all do the work to build a more equal ABC.
The Committee would have 2 Chairs who sit on the National House Committee.
National ABC MEAA House Committee
