  • We are excited to invite you to join us at T'chiyah for in-person and livestreamed High Holiday services, held in the social hall of First United Methodist Church in Ferndale.

    Services will be open and free-of-charge for T'chiyah members as well as non-members. To ensure that we can properly accommodate our crowd, we request your RSVP by September 7. 

    If you are not a member of the congregation, we invite (but do not require) you to make a donation to T'chiyah to keep our progressive, participatory and whole-heartedly inclusive community chugging along.

  • SERVICE SCHEDULE

    Unless otherwise noted, services will take place in the Social Hall of First United Methodist Church, 22331 Woodward Ave, Ferndale, MI 48220 – a wheelchair-accessible facility. 

    Childcare provided at all services. On Rosh Hashanah Day 1 and Yom Kippur morning, a brief children's service (tailored for ages 7 and under, though all are welcome) will take place in the childcare room.

    • Friday, Sept. 15: Erev Rosh Hashanah. No services.
      Go to www.tchiyah.org/erev to sign-up to host or attend a holiday dinner! 

    • Saturday, Sept. 16: Rosh Hashanah Day 1
      • 9:30 AM - 1:00 PM: Morning Service
      • Catered lunch to follow.

    • Sunday, Sept. 17: Rosh Hashanah Day 2
      • 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM: "Reconstructed" Service Workshops & Learning *in T'chiyah sanctuary, Upper Level*
      • 3:00 PM - 4:00 PM: Family Service in Milliken State Park, Detroit (in partnership with the Isaac Agree Downtown Synagogue)
      • 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM: Tashlich, Milliken State Park, Detroit (in partnership with the Isaac Agree Downtown Synagogue)

    • Sunday, Sept. 24: Erev Yom Kippur
      • 7:00 - 9:00 PM: Kol Nidre Service 

    • Monday, Sept. 25: Yom Kippur
      • 9:30 AM - 1:00 PM: Morning Service & Yizkor
      • 4:00 - 6:00 PM: Afternoon Workshops
      • 6:00 - 8:00 PM: Mincha (Afternoon Service), Ma'ariv (Evening Service) and Ne'ilah (Closing Service)
      • 8:00 PM: Potluck Break-Fast

     

  • ACCESSIBILITY INFO & COVID PROTOCOLS

    Services will be held in-person and livestreamed via Zoom. This will be high-quality audio/video feed of the services, but we will not be running a concurrent slideshow as in 2020 and 2021. Registrants will receive a PDF copy of the High Holiday machzor to follow along at home. We will have auto-generated captioning in use. 

    First United Methodist Church is a wheelchair-accessible location. Accessing the Social Hall (Lower Level) requires climbing stairs or utilizing an elevator. Gender-neutral restrooms are adjacent to Social Hall. An large, gender-neutral single stall ADA-compliant restroom is also available on the main floor (Upper Level) across the hall from the sanctuary. 

    To make a safe environment for attendees with chemical sensitivities, please refrain from wearing perfume, cologne or fragrance. (This includes natural / essential oils.)

    Palmer Park, the outdoor location for Rosh Hashanah Day 2's afternoon activities, features a paved walking path, on-site parking and no restrooms. 

    COVID Protocols: 

    To practice our shared value of community care:

    1. All in-person attendees must receive a negative COVID test (rapid or PCR) within 24hrs of the start of the service and be symptom free*

    2. Discuss your eligibility for a vaccine booster with your health care team and get up to date if needed.

    3. Wear a mask for indoor services unless doing so would create a substantial barrier for your participation. We trust that everyone will make thoughtful choices rooted in a common concern for the collective.

    *symptoms include: cough, fever, sore throat, nausea or vomiting, difficulty breathing

    ***Safety protocols are subject to change depending on current state of affairs at the time of each service.***
