• Handmade Verification ESTABLISHED Artisan Application

    Handmade Verification ESTABLISHED Artisan Application

  • This is a shortened Handmade Verification application for “Established Artisans,” which are artisans whose handmade process has already been “verified” by a reputable third party. Third-party verification means that someone else - such as a videographer, writer, photographer, media outlet, museum, book publisher, or craft guild/organization - has already documented your work. For example: if an artisan has been featured by their local newspaper who published an interview demonstrating that the work is handmade and included photos of their workshop, the artisan can simply provide a link to the article. We expect this process only applies to a small percentage of our applicants who have been uniquely lucky enough to have their work featured by others. But we offer this option because we value any possible way to save time and show respect for busy artisans who have already done this kind of verification work. This alternative is only eligible for Voluntary Reviews, not Enforcement Reviews. If you feel that you may not be an “Established Artisan” in accordance with this description, or if this is an Enforcement Review, please fill out the Peer Review Application instead.

All artisans join our marketplace as “Unverified.” Those who complete the review process may earn the “Verified” label for benefits and greater visibility on the marketplace. Handmade Verification is voluntary for new artisans and required for artisans whose shop has had three (3) or more community enforcement reports. Details about the Handmade Verification and Enforcement processes, including your right to appeal the results of this review, are located in our Handmade Policy.

Please do not submit more than one voluntary Handmade Verification Application per tax ID.

All information you provide in this application will be kept confidential. The information you share in this form will be used for the purpose of verifying your shop as handmade. This information will be accessed by Artisans Co-op management, who have been trained in handmade verification, and have signed a non-disclosure agreement in which they agree to keep personal and business information confidential. However, we still encourage artisans not to divulge any trade secrets in this application.

This application takes around 5 minutes to complete -- if you have already gathered the necessary links and/or screenshots. Before you begin this application, we recommend you gather links and/or screenshots that are evidence from reputable outside parties that your work meets our Handmade Policy. These can be links to magazine or newspaper articles, directory listings, juried craft fairs, guilds, or vetted handmade directories like Indie Sellers Guild or ActuallyHandmade.co. This content must be produced by others, not the artisan themselves, and must involve verification or documentation of the artisan’s handmade process. If you are providing links or references to social media platforms that require a login to view, please provide screenshots instead.

No hablo inglés / Je ne parle pas anglais. If you do not speak English or feel more comfortable in your native language, please use translation tools such as Google Translate for the multiple-choice questions. For paragraph answers, you may answer in your native language. We may have to use translation tools to interpret your replies, but we will always seek to verify with you anything in the translation that we don’t understand or that doesn’t make sense.

Please answer the questions truthfully and as thoroughly as you can. Dishonesty, false answers, willfully misleading information, or similar deceptions may be grounds for removal from our marketplace, in accordance with our Terms of Service.

  • NSFW content generally includes items that contain suggestive pictures, a lot of nudity, or adult, vulgar, or violent content. Your answer about NSFW content does not affect your shop or Handmade Verification but is a screening question for Peer Reviewers who may not wish to view NSFW content.

  • In-house Production, Outsourcing, or Print-on-Demand

Our Handmade Policy allows in-house production and outsourced manufacture, but Print-on-Demand for "Print Materials" in faithful reproductions only.

Print-on-Demand is a certain type of outsourcing in which you provide a file to a manufacturer who manufactures and ships an item “to-order” directly to the customer with no minimum quantity. The definition of Print-on-Demand is in the Handmade Policy Glossary.

If you produce some of the items that you want to list on the Artisans Cooperative marketplace with outsourced production of any kind, please answer “no.” Your work may still qualify as Handmade.

Please answer only for the products you’re putting or planning to put on the Artisans Cooperative marketplace, not for anywhere else you might offer your products for sale.

  • Established Artisans

We have a shortened questionnaire out of respect for established artisans whose handmade process has already been documented, vetted, and interviewed before by reputable outside parties such as journalists, juried craft fairs, guilds, or vetted handmade directories like Indie Sellers Guild or ActuallyHandmade.co. These artisans have already submitted their work for review many times in their careers and will need to provide third-party evidence, such as links to magazine or newspaper articles, or directory listings. This content must be produced by others, not the artisan themselves, and must involve verification of the artisan's handmade process. This option is only available for voluntary reviews, not enforcement reviews, even if you are already a Verified Artisan.
  • Established Artisans

Provide evidence from reputable third-party sources demonstrating how your work meets our Handmade Policy, as described above. This may include text, links and uploads. If you are providing links or references to social media platforms that require a login to view, please provide screenshots instead. The evidence will be reviewed by a member of our Governance Team or Handmade Review Committee. If the evidence is found to be insufficient, then you will need to re-submit a complete application for Peer Review.
