We will do everything possible to prevent workplace accidents and are committed to providing a safe working environment for you and all employees. We value you not only as an employee but also as a human being critical to the success of your family, the local community, and Highway Improvement, Inc.. You are encouraged to report any unsafe work practices or safety hazards encountered on the job. All accidents/incidents (no matter how slight) are to be immediately reported to the supervisor on duty.

    A key factor in implementing this policy will be the strict compliance to all applicable federal, state, local, and Highway Improvement, Inc. policies and procedures. Failure to comply with these policies may result in disciplinary actions. Respecting this, Highway Improvement, Inc. will make every reasonable effort to provide a safe and healthful workplace that is free from any recognized or known potential hazards. Additionally, Highway Improvement, Inc. subscribes to these principles:

    1. All accidents are preventable through implementation of effective Safety and Health Control policies and programs.

    2. Safety and Health controls are a major part of our work every day.

    3. Accident prevention is good business. It minimizes human suffering, promotes better working conditions for everyone, holds Highway Improvement, Inc. in higher regard with customers, and increases productivity. This is why Highway Improvement, Inc. will comply with all safety and health regulations which apply to the course and scope of operations.

    4. Management is responsible for providing the safest possible workplace for Employees. Consequently, management of Highway Improvement, Inc. is committed to allocating and providing all of the resources needed to promote and effectively implement this safety policy.

    5. Employees are responsible for following safe work practices, company rules, and for preventing accidents and injuries. Management will establish lines of communication to solicit and receive comments, information, suggestions, and assistance from employees where safety and health are concerned.

    6. Management and supervisors of Highway Improvement, Inc. will set an exemplary example with good attitudes and strong commitment to safety and health in the workplace. Toward this end, management must monitor the company's safety and health performance, working environment, and conditions to ensure that program objectives are achieved.

    7. Our safety program applies to all employees and persons affected or associated in any way by the scope of this business. Everyone's goal must be to constantly improve safety awareness and to prevent accidents and injuries.

    Everyone at Highway Improvement, Inc. must be involved and committed to safety. This must be a team effort. Together, we can prevent accidents and injuries and keep each other safe and healthy in the workplace.

    By signing this document, I confirm the receipt of Highway Improvement, Inc.'s employee safety handbook. I have read and understood all policies, programs, and actions as described, and agree to comply with these set policies.

  • All company vehicles are for Highway Improvement, Inc. business use only. Driving under the influence, transporting any alcoholic beverages or illegal substances are strictly forbidden. Violations of this policy will result in employment termination.

    Employees needing transportation for person activities ( entertainment, recreation, shopping, etc.) need to make other arrangements.

  • Motor vehicle accidents are a leading cause of work-related fatalities. The environment in which these accidents occur involves numerous complex factors, many uncontrollable. The purpose of Highway Improvement, Inc.'s Driver Safety Policy is to provide the means to reduce such factors to eliminate unnecessary injuries and fatal circumstances. We value our employees not only as employees but also as human beings who are crucial to the success of their families, the local community and Highway Improvement, Inc..

    Highway Improvement. Inc. encourages its employees to take a proactive approach in identifying potential hazards by promptly reporting them to their supervisor.

    A motor vehicle report (MVR) will be requested minimally once per year. Management reserves the right to use its discretion in determining an unsatisfactory MVR. As a guideline. 3 violations in the past three years will be grounds for an unsatisfactory MVR and may be cause for termination and/or disciplinary actions.

    Highway Improvement, Inc. conducts mandatory random drug and alcohol testing. Driving under the influence of alcohol or other illegal substances is grounds for termination.

    Drivers will be supplied with an accident claim kit, a pen and a disposable camera. Drivers are required to document details of the accident traffic flow, speed limits. stop lights/signs. weather conditions, citations issued. etc. Pictures should be taken to document the extent of damage to all vehicles involved. REPORT ACCIDENTS IMMEDIATELY TO YOUR DISPATCHER OR SUPERVISOR.

    Personal use of company vehicles is prohibited without prior permission from management

The environment in which these accidents occur involves numerous complex factors, many of which are uncontrollable. The purpose of Highway Improvement. Inc.'s Fleet Safety program is to eliminate unnecessary injuries and fatal circumstances by reducing those factors that we can control. We value our employees not only as employees but also as human beings crucial to the success of their family, the local community and Highway Improvement, Inc.

    All employees are expected and required to actively participate in this program for their own health and well-being. Highway Improvement, Inc. encourages its employees to take a proactive approach in identifying potential hazards by promptly reporting them to their supervisor. The use of seatbelts and other safety devices is mandatory.

    MVRs will be requested periodically at a minimum of at least once per year. Management reserves the right to use its discretion in determining an unsatisfactory MVR. As a guideline, 3 violations in the past three years will be grounds for an unsatisfactory MVR and cause for termination and/or disciplinary actions.

    New hire and periodic employee training will be offered. All employees are expected and required to actively participate identifying training needs as well as program development. Programs will consist of classroom and on the road modules. Training will focus on but not limited to defensive driving techniques and behavior modification.

    We encourage all employees to report any and all maintenance and malfunction issues immediately to their supervisor. Highway Improvement, Inc. realizes a proper working vehicle is the first step to ensuring everyone's safety.

  • Distracted Driving Policy

  • Please read, sign and return the Distracted Driving Policy to your supervisor. In order to increase employee safety and eliminate unnecessary risks behind the wheel, Highway Improvement, Inc. has enacted a Distracted Driving Policy, effective 11/16/2020. We are committed to ending the epidemic of distracted driving, and have created the following rules, which apply to any employee operating a company vehicle (or a personal vehicle for business purposes) or using a company-issued cellphone while operating a vehicle

    • Company employees may not use a hand-held cellphone while operating a vehicle—whether the vehicle is in motion or stopped at a traffic light. This includes, but is not limited to, answering or making phone calls. engaging in phone conversations. and reading or responding to emails. instant messages and text messages.

    • If company employees need to use their phones, they must safely pull over to the side of the road or another location.

    • Additionally. company employees are required to do the following: Turn cellphones off or put them on silent or vibrate before starting the venicle. Consider modifying voicemail greetings to indicate that you are unavailable to answer calls or return messages while driving. Inform clients, associates and business partners of this policy as an explanation of why calls may not be returned immediately.

    • Failure to comply to comply to these regulations will result in a suspension of driving company vehicles


    I acknowledge that I have received a written copy of the Distracted Driving Policy, that I fully understand the terms of this policy. that I agree to abide by these terms and that I am willing to accept the consequences of failing to follow the policy.
