How to Apply for Student of the Year:

• Fill out this online application and submit the below information by September 29, 2023
  
  
• Upload a recommendation/endorsement letter from your instructor
  (or they can email stephaniec@ubtech.edu)
  
  
• After the completion of this form, email stephaniec@ubtech.edu a one-page essay which will be their speech for interviews. Submit speech by October 9th.
  • Topic: "Why I Chose UBTech and How I Will Use My Training To Better My Life" 

Attend Student of the Year Interviews on October 12, 2023:

• Prepare a five-minute speech. It doesn't have to be word-per-word of the essay submitted, but the same theme as your essay. Your speech should focus on your experience at UBTech and how you plan to use the skills obtained to make you successful in life. You'll give this speech to the UBTech selection committee. Location TBA, 2:30 - 7:00pm.
  
  
• Be prepared for a short interview by the selection committee.
  
  
• Be prepared for a video interview. This is not part of the contest, this is to highlight our candidates and will be shown at the banquet on November 1, 2023.
  
  
• All candidates will be required to attend the Student of the Year Banquet on November 1, 2023.

UBTech Student of the Year Affidavit:

The student who is selected as UBTech Student of the Year has local responsibilities and will need to agree to fulfill these responsibilities. As a local ambassador for technical education, several public appearances will be required along with the following responsibilities: 

• Speak at the UBTech Student of the Year Banquet - Nov 1, 2023
• Address the College Board of Trustees at a board meeting - TBA
• Attend/Speak at UBTech Champions Banquet - Jan 10, 2024
• Attend/Speak at Junior/Senior Parent Night - March 12 & 19, 2024
• Attend UBTech Days - April 16 & 18, 2024
• Become a member of the UBTech National Honor Technical Society
• Speak and MC the National Honor Technical Society Banquet - April 23, 2024
• Speak at UBTech Graduation - Saturday, May 4, 2024
• Speak at the following year's Student of the Year Banquet - TBA 2024
• Attend/Speak at other college events such as parades, summer camps, UBIC breakfast, community booths and other events as needed during the year
• Share your student story through marketing materials such as radio, posters, social media, videos, etc. 
• Assist with President's UBTech Leadership Ambassador Team
• Serve as the college's ambassador for technical education for a one year period (November 2023 - November 2024)

Affirmation of Responsibilities: 

As a candidate for UBTech's Student of the Year, I certify that, if selected, I will comply with the responsibilities above. 

I have read and understand the responsibilities of the UBTech Student of the Year winner. Within the limits imposed upon me by my employer, and by accepting the $1,000 cash award, I will attend the above referenced events and public appearances arranged by UBTech. 

If I am unable to perform my duties, I will refund my cash prize award, up to $1,000 as determined by the selection committee, and the new student of the year will be awarded. 

I will accept responsibility for representing UBTech in that I do and say. I will demonstrate the best qualities of Utah's technical education students in all public appearances and will consider myself a UBTech ambassador.
