2024 SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION
The South Broward Alumnae Chapter (SBAC) of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated is pleased to present to you our 2024 Scholarship Application. SBAC will award $2,000 scholarships to deserving African American or African Descent female or male high school seniors matriculating at an accredited four-year college or university for the Fall 2024 academic year.
ELIGIBILITY – THE APPLICANT MUST:
- Be an African – American or of African descent male or female
- Be a graduating senior from a high school within or reside within the following Southern Broward County boundaries: Griffin Road (North boundary line); County Line Road (South boundary line); Atlantic Ocean (East boundary line); and the Florida Everglades (West boundary line). The boundary includes but is not limited to the following cities: Cooper City, Dania Beach, Davie, Hallandale Beach, Hollywood, Miramar, Pembroke Park, Pembroke Pines, Southwest Ranches, Sunshine Ranches, and West Park.
- Have applied to an accredited four-year college or university
- Be available for a personal interview
EVERY SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION MUST INCLUDE:
- Completed application electronically signed by the Applicant and Parent.
- Selection of either the Brenda Gillis Educational Excellence Scholarship or the Linda Lockhart Scholarship Award.
- Upload official sealed high school transcript.
- Upload Two (2) letters of recommendation from a School Representative, Community Leader, or
- Civic Leader with an original signature. The letters must discuss the applicant’s leadership experience, community service involvement, character, and/or scholastic achievement. Community service hours must be documented on the applicant’s high school transcript.
- Upload unofficial copy of SAT or ACT Test scores (for example: mailed to the applicant from the testing agency or printed from the agency website).
- Upload a senior yearbook photo or headshot photo in professional attire with the application.
- Upload your Essay – typed, one-page, plain legible font, and double spaced - Discussing the impact of a local, national, or international event or issue and its importance in your life.
NOTE: Only completed applications dated or postmarked by March 1, 2024, will be reviewed.
- Interviews are tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, March 13, 2024 and Thursday, March 14, 2024. The location and time of the interview will be provided upon notification of selection for interview.
- The applicant must provide SBAC of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated with an official proof of enrollment letter for the Fall 2024 semester on or before September 30, 2024, or the award will be forfeited.
- Scholarship recipient(s) are selected and payments are remitted directly to the institution and/or the award recipient at the sole discretion of the SBAC of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated.
- Submit online application and all supporting documents by 11:59 PM on or before March 1, 2024, via the scholarship application link on the chapter’s website at www.dstsouthbroward.org

SCHOLARSHIP SELECTION

All Applicants Must Select Only One Scholarship Award. If an applicant selects more than one award or submits more than one application under different awards, said applicant will be disqualified from consideration of all scholarships. All applicants must submit a completed application, incomplete applications will not be considered.
An applicant for these scholarship awards must have at least:
- 150 community service hours documented on the student’s high school transcript
- A minimum combined score of 24 on the ACT or 1225 on the SAT
- One (1) of the two (2) required letters of recommendation must:
  - Be from School Representative, Community Leader, or Civic Leader with first-hand knowledge of the applicant’s community service and the impact of the student’s service in the community
  - Discuss the applicant’s leadership experience AND community service involvement
- At least a 3.5 unweighted GPA
Brenda Gillis Educational Excellence Scholarship Award: This scholarship will be awarded to the applicant(s) who has worked diligently to excel academically and has made significant contributions to their community through their time, action, talents and dedication.
