  • Program Information

Please ensure you read all information carefully.

    • Each child participating must be registered seperately.

  • Reading Requirements

Reading requirements vary by grade level to correspond with age appropriate reading.

    Reading Requirements are as follows:

PreK & Kindergarten: 15 pages per day
    1st & 2nd Grade: 20 pages per day
    3rd & 4th Grade: 25 pages per day
    5th & 6th Grade: 30 pages per day

Program requires children to read the specified number of pages per day of age-appropriate books. (Although we encourage any reading, a 6th grader would not meet the requirement for daily reading for this program if they are reading a 1st grade reading level book).

We, of course, acknowledge that some children's reading levels differentiate from their actual grade level. If even with adult assistance, this will still be a significant issue, please reach out to Tiffany Halstead, SPLASH into Reading Program Coordinator 😊

  • Reading Log

In order for a child to earn their free admission pass to SPLASH Indoor Water Park Resort, they must read a minimum of the specified number of pages of an age-appropriate book. Reading requirements are designated by grade and can be found listed above.

Each day, simply record the book that you are currently reading, title and author, in the appropriate columns. If you are starting this book, mark the date you begin reading it. If it takes you more than a day to read it, no problem! Just write “ ---” in the “date finished reading” column if you are still working on it. Make sure you are reading (and tracking on the form) the number of pages you have read each day and that you are reading at least the number of pages required for your grade level. This part is important and necessary to earn your monthly reward 💦.

When you complete the book, make sure you write down the date you completed it. There are lots of good things to take note of when you are reading and we want to keep track of it all! 🤩

Parents/guardians/family members, please help your child with their reading as well as the tracking log. We want this to be a fun, family friendly reading experience that ends with a fun SPLASH when they earn their free admission to the SPLASH Indoor Water Park Resort!

Readers, it is important to ensure that you are reading the appropriate number of pages for your grade level each day. It is also equally important that you are reading age appropriate books. Reading Logs will be reviewed to ensure that the material being read is appropriate for the child’s grade level. Family members, you can be of assistance here, and for that, we thank you!

Reading Logs will be posted on the Oswego County Youth Bureau's Facebook page each month. Completed monthly reading logs need to be submitted to Tiffany Halstead, SPLASH into Reading Program Coordinator. Completed reading logs must have child’s name and grade as well as a parent/guardian signature attesting to the completion of age-appropriate book pages read as indicated on the form.

Forms can be mailed to Tiffany Hasltead at 70 Bunner Street - Oswego, NY 13126 or can be emailed to tiffany.halstead@oswegocounty.com. Questions can also be directed to the email address provided.

**Free admission passes will not be mailed out. You will receive an email with your child's pass for the following month.
