• Volunteer Application

    Street Paws and Clayton County Humane Society are volunteer only organizations. We are always looking for assistance from new volunteers. We feel that your time is one of the most precious and valuable gifts you can give to Street Paws or Clayton County Humane Society.
  • Under 18 years old must be accompanied by an adult at all times. You must be 18 years old to work at the shelter directly with the animals. 

    Application Fee: $5.00

    If selected as a volunteer, you will be required to purchase a volunteer t-shirt. The cost varies per shirt $9-$17 depending on the style. All volunteers are required to wear this volunteer t-shirt while volunteering with Street Paws.

    Volunteer Roles

    1) Shelter Volunteers (On-Site — 18+)

    ​Cat Care & Enrichment

    Help our cats feel safe, calm, and loved:

    Sit with kitties and give them attention; play with them
    Play with cats using toys
    Groom cats as needed
    Check cat bedding in cages and change if dirty
    Change water bowls daily with fresh water
    Scoop litter boxes (waste goes in the trash can)
    Make sure cats don’t get closed in the closet, bathroom, or hallway
    Watch for escaping cats when opening doors in the office/cat room
    ​​

    Dog Care & Enrichment

    Support our dogs with safe routines and daily care:

    Walking dogs
    Socializing shy or traumatized pets
    Allow dogs to run in the yard only after checking with staff

    Some dogs cannot be outside together
    Scoop the yard (waste goes in the large garbage can)
    ​​

    Cleaning & Daily Shelter Support

    Keep our shelter clean, safe, and welcoming:

    Sweep, mop, dust, and general cleaning
    Clean the bathroom (supplies are in the bathroom)
    Fold laundry and put away
    Clean kennels and enclosures
    Wipe concrete walls inside dog cages and dog runs (this is done daily with floor cleaning)
    Remove cobwebs from cages
    Dust fans (fans may require an air compressor for cleaning)

    Outdoor & Facility Help

    Help keep the property safe and maintained:

    Blow leaves from turf/concrete areas

    Important: Do not use regular gasoline in the leaf blower — use the labeled gas mixture only
    Clear the turf area with the leaf blower (blower stored in the yard equipment utility shed)
    Pull weeds (mulch and gravel areas should be weed-free)
    Move fallen limbs to the pile
    Help in the storage containers (often Wednesdays)

    Donations & Pantry Support

    Assist with stocking the food pantry
    Bring donated items into the shelter
    Take photos of donated items for “thank you” social media posts
    ​​

    Office & Admin Support

    Help with office tasks
    Help with paperwork (as needed and when staff is ready to delegate)
    ​

    Transport Help

    Transport animals to vet appointments
    Transport animals to adoption events
    ​

    2) Adoption Event Volunteers

    Help us connect animals with new families and meet the community:

    Help at adoption events
    Talk to potential adopters/supporters about Street Paws
    Share information about animals available for adoption
    Assist with adoption paperwork (must be the right person)
    Transport animals to events
    Staff the Street Paws table and help sell items during events

    3) Trap–Neuter–Return (TNR) Volunteers

    Support community cats through safe, humane care:

    Feed feral/community cats (choose a consistent day you can feed)
    Trap feral cats when needed (injured, spay/neuter, etc.)
    Serve as a cat colony caretaker
    Help supervise the trap loan program

    4) Foster Volunteers

    Open your home and help an animal heal and thrive:

    Care for a foster animal like it’s your own
    Provide love, attention, and a safe space
    Street Paws provides food and all veterinary care
    ​​

    5) Fundraising & Event Volunteers

    Help us raise critical funds to save more lives.

    Spayghetti Dinner (March & October — Biggest Fundraisers)

    Sell tickets, find sponsors, and help seek donors
    Collect raffle items
    Collect silent auction items
    Help with setup/takedown
    Help wherever needed during the dinner
    Toasting for Charity (August — Georgian Gallery)

    Help at the event
    Collect raffle basket/silent auction items
    Mingle with guests and answer questions about Street Paws
    Putt for Paws (Date TBD — Three Dollar Café)

    Help where needed
    Talk with supporters about Street Paws/CCHS
    Staff the table and help sell items
    Pawtoberfest (October — Brewery)

    Help at Pawtoberfest
    Talk with potential supporters/adopters about Street Paws

    6) Two by Two Thrift Store Volunteers (Jonesboro)

    Support our thrift store operations:

    Provide daily coverage
    Collect items for the store
    Stock shelves and organize merchandise

    7) Special Skills Volunteers

    If you have professional skills, we’d love your help:

    Fundraising
    Photography
    Website management (Wix experience required)
    Social media and marketing
    Bookkeeping (experienced only)
    Creative writing for a newsletter
    Givebutter support (must be the right person)
    Food pickups (truck often needed)
    Volunteer program supervision
    Woodworking (build donation boxes, shelters, cat trees, enlarge cat condo)
