Dojo Etiquette Logo
  • DOJO ETIQUETTE

In order to establish a safe, cordial, and respectful learning environment, all students (children and adults) must follow the expectations set by the standards of Bushido-Kai Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu's dojo etiquette. Please familiarize yourself with our expectations, then sign and submit the online document prior to your first class.
  • SHOW UP on time to class. Earlier is better.

BOW when entering or exiting the mats.

WEAR your uniform and line up in class by belt rank. Keep your belt tied at all times and do not wear shoes or socks on the mats.

ASK for permission to join the class if you are late.

INFORM the instructor before class if you have to leave early.

RESPECT our dojo by keeping the training area and language clean.

HYGIENE is critical. Wash your gi and rash guard after every class. Keep your nails trimmed.

ACKNOWLEDGE your position in class. You are not the professor. Everyone is a student until they reach and obtain the rank of black belt. Do not teach, coach, or criticize a fellow student. Refrain from actively giving advice and focus on personal improvement.

RESPECT your instructors and training partners by paying attention, not being disruptive, and speaking kindly.

BE PATIENT with your progress. It takes years of consistent training to master BJJ. Progress takes time, effort, understanding, and practice. Do not ask when you will be promoted or why you are not being promoted. You will be promoted when the instructor feels you are ready and have met the requisite skills.

TAKE CARE of your training partner and be mindful of preventing or aggravating injuries. Keep training playful and fun.

GET BETTER, GET TIRED, & HAVE FUN!
