Vulcan District is offering an Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills (IOLS) course for Scouts BSA adult leaders and a Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation (BALOO) for Cub Scout Leaders hosted at the Troop 63 Scout Hut at Canterbury United Methodist Church in Mountain Brook. The IOLS course is the second half of BSA Adult Leader training and is focused to provide basic outdoor skills to develop and implement an outdoor program.
When: Saturday, November 4th, 2023. Check in at the Troop 63 Scout Hut behind Canterbury United Methodist Church. Check-in time is at 7:30am.
Where: Canterbury United Methodist Church, 350 Overbrook Road, Mountain Brook, AL 35213
Uniform: Scouting Field Uniform (Class A), and Activity Uniform (Class B)
Details: Participants will camp overnight on Saturday. Classes are primarily outdoors. You will need to bring with you BSA Medical Form Parts A&B, note taking materials, personal eating and drinking utensils, camp chair, and camping equipment. Course fee is $25 per person to cover course materials and supplies.
As part of the training, Participants will be assembled into Patrols. Additional information and forms will be provided after registration. Please provide information on any special medical or dietary needs.
BALOO participants: please note there is now an online section of BALOO. Please complete the online section before attending by visiting https://my.scouting.org/ and logging into your scout account.
Registration Note: When registering, please select only IOLS or BALOO. It is not possible for one individual to take the two classes simultaneously.
Parking: Please park on the top floor of the parking deck at Canterbury and then proceed to walk up the hill to the Scout Hut. Note- the hill you will climb to the Scout Hut is somewhat steep.
