150 S Navajo St. Denver, CO. 80223
We are excited to announce the expansion of the Miracle League Denver to Valverde Park in cooperation with Denver Parks and Recreation Association. This will bring an enhanced, safer, and better maintained surface to our players along with lights and INDOOR RESTROOMS provided by Life-Line Colorado. With over 140 participants and growing, this facility will promise growth with a committed Denver Parks and Recreation Association - Therapeutic Recreation Department. Unfortunately our existing facility is not adequately maintained within our existing partnership to provide the population we serve a safe and professional environment.
Thank your for volunteering for MLMD adaptive baseball. Without you, we wouldn't be able to run our program. Miracle League of Metro Denver depends on each and every volunteer to help our players both on the field and off by creating an atmosphere conducive to baseball. Some of our players need assistance with all aspects of baseball, some need very little more than cheering. Either way, your presence makes all of the difference in the world!
MLMD adaptive baseball rules are that all players are up to bat or on the field each inning and everyone scores. The role of the volunteer is to support a safe and fun environment for the athletes and spectators.
Recreation League (Rec): Athletes are beginners or need more assistance hitting the ball, running/wheeling to bases, playing catch, etc. Each player will have 1-2 buddies assigned.
Competitive League (Comp): Athletes are more experienced players and need little to no assistance. Buddies may be assigned to the team or individual players. Buddies will encourage athletes and assist as needed.
Volunteer Opportunities:
Announcer: This role is to encourage a positive and energetic environment by announcing each player as they are up to bat and run the bases. The announcer also encourages the spectators get excited and enaged. Athletes play until they hit the ball and there are everyone scores so this is a fun opportunity to excite the players and the crowd!
Umpire: The umpire helps keep the flow of the game. He/she also acts as the catcher or sets up the tee for the athlete. This position keeps home plate ready to play ball and safe for the participants.
Concessions: This position sells concessions and answers questions for the participants and spectators
Buddy: This is an on field position where volunteers are directly engaging with the athletes. During recreational league, they are paired up with an athlete to assist them throughout the game. Competitive league players are more independent and need assistance only as needed. Buddies help the athletes run bases if needed, play catch, guide them to the correct location, socialize and overall have a blast!
Liaison: A liason provides direction and coordinates the group volunteers, individual buddies and checks in athletes. They provide safety information and ensures guidelines are followed throughout the game.
Coach: If you are interested in being a coach contact Jim Morgan. Coaches registration is located in the athlete registration form.
