By signing below I understand that:
- Voluntary work is unpaid and without reward
- I am not an employee of Marine Reach Vanuatu
- Marine Reach Vanuatu is under no obligation to provide ongoing voluntary or paid work. This arrangement can be ended by either myself or Marine Reach Vanuatu without any formal notice.
By signing below I agree to follow Marine Reach Vanuatu's Code of Conduct:
As a volunteer with Marine Reach Vanuatu (MRV), I am committed to furthering the vision of MRV to disciple the nation of Vanuatu to know God and to walk in His ways. I recognise that the work of discipleship goes beyond the classroom and into every aspect of life. True discipleship is rooted in faith in Jesus which results in a lifestyle of living according to God’s principles. While discipleship is not based on rules, I understand that MRV has certain boundaries in place to help guard the spiritual integrity of the ministry and those being discipled. Therefore, I agree to maintain the following expectations set by MRV both on and off the premises of MRV property:
1. I will respect, value and love God, others and myself
- I affirm that men and women are equal, both in responsibilities and leadership
- I will respect and submit to my leadership regardless of their age or their gender
- I commit to using my words to build others up, not tear them down. Therefore, I will not use my words to spread gossip or to bully others.
- I will believe the highest and the best in others instead of being quick to judge and make assumptions
- If I have a conflict with someone else, I will work to resolve it
2. I will live a lifestyle of transparency, integrity and honesty
- I will walk in openness and transparency, with humility and repentance
- I commit to telling the truth and not telling a lie, which includes only telling a partial truth
- I will not steal or borrow from others without asking permission first
- If I am aware of a situation or an incident in which a staff, student, or volunteer of MRV did not follow the code of conduct, I will not keep it hidden from the Core Leadership Team. I will challenge the individual(s) involved to go to leadership first, but if they do not, I will bring it to leadership myself.
3. I will walk in sexual purity
- I recognise that sexual relationships are reserved only for a man and a woman who are legally married
- I recognise that all sexual activity, including but not limited to pornography, masturbation, phone sex, oral sex, and sexual intercourse outside of marriage is not permitted
- I acknowledge that all romantic relationships must be disclosed to leadership for accountability
- I acknowledge that we live in a cultural setting that makes assumptions based on appearances. In order to be above suspicion in my relations with someone of the opposite gender, I will not be one on one with someone of the opposite gender in a dark or isolated area where others are not around. If I am one on one with someone of the opposite gender, I will be in a well lit area where others are around.
4. I will abstain from smoking cigarettes and marijuana, drinking kava, taking non-prescription drugs, and consuming alcohol to the point of being even mildly drunk both on and off the premises of Marine Reach Vanuatu property.
5. I acknowledge that Marine Reach Vanuatu has a zero tolerance policy for sexual assault (sexual contact or behavior that occurs without the consent of the victim) that will result in immediate release from the ministry and the incident will be reported to the police.
I have read the above statements and agree to abide by them during my time with Marine Reach Vanuatu. I recognise that should I fail to keep any of the above expectations it will be addressed by the Core Leadership Team.
