Spit roasting generally takes 5hours + and lighting the coal will take approx 40 mins. To ensure enough cooking time, please keep in mind we can deliver the day prior. You will just need to have an appropriate space to keep your meat cold overnight.

Farmgate's duel fuel spit is designed for gas use or or charcoal only. Please note no timber is to be used for fires in the spit. This will overheat and warp the steel. In cases where the steel is damaged and warped deposits will be forfeited.

Cooking times: Cooking times will vary, but longer and slower cooks develop softer meat, more flavour and better yields. Allow 45 mins to light your coals, then approx 5-6 for a 16-20kg lamb or pig. So if you're eating at 2pm, light your coals between 7-7.15am. The bigger the animal the longer it cooks especially if it's windy or cold/wet.

Spits are dangerous, please work and act safe around the spit, fire and hot steel. Alcohol and irresponsible behaviour around the fire can cause injury including major burns. Children must not be left unattended around the spit/fire and a responsible adult must manage the cook/fire. Once delivered, you void Farmgate for any liability or damages that may occur due to the use of this spit.

Fire Bans - Spit hire is not available on total fire bans. At times where a total fire ban has been declared on your spit day, your spit hire can be moved to another day within a 12 month period from the date of hire. Refunds are not available.

Cancellation Policy - All cancellations incur a 10% handling fee. Cancellations over 21 days receive a full refund, 14-21 days 50% refund, 7-14 days 25% refund, less than 7 days no refunds given.

A $200 refundable deposit is charged with every hire to cover cleaning and any damages. Please ensure after use, any left over coal is left to finish burning and discarded properly. A light hose off then a thorough scrub with soapy hot water will generally clean any grease and dirt from cooking. Remember to give back the spit the way you received it.

Hire of the spit is only available for use with meat purchased through Farmgate to plate, hire will not be available with meat sourced from elsewhere.
