Program Opportunities
Cancer Center Music Program
The purpose is to create a restful and pleasant atmosphere. Based on the reaction of the listeners, musicians attempt to adjust the style of their music based on the situation. Musicians provide a warm and caring presence and it has been shown to lessen stress and anxiety, and music tends to soften the environment and provide a distraction from the listener's immediate concerns.
Special Note: Volunteer musicians must be at an advanced skill level and be able to play their instrument with sensitivity while, at the same time, paying close attention to patients and staff responses. Preferred instruments: piano, guitar, harp, (with special awareness regarding lyric content).
